Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, hardworking, and well-motivated individual to join the management team within the Surgical Service Group.

As a Service Manager, you will be working in a triumvirate with the Matron(s) and Clinical Service Leads (CSL) to actively promote a culture of care which reflects Somerset Foundation Trusts values and leadership behaviours.

The post holder will provide operational managerial support to the theatre, anaesthetic, critical care and sterile service teams; ensure delivery of finance and performance targets; guarantee robust governance arrangements are in place and strategic demands on the services are met.

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking person with excellent communication and leadership skills. The post holder will be effective in working closely with clinical and non-clinical staff to support and optimise the services by taking a proactive role in continuous service development and improvement.

This is a position with county-wide responsibilities and the successful applicant will be expected to evenly split their time each week between Yeovil District Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holds a lead role for the countywide operational and budgetary management and strategic planning of the service areas. The post holder will be the senior responsible individual for overall assurance that all services are focussed on ensuring the most effective and efficient use of resources to deliver a high quality service that achieves the required performance targets in line with the Trust's core values.

The post holder will be expected to provide clear leadership and direction on improvement of patient services, working with the multi-disciplinary team. They will also be expected to ensure that the services provided are responsive to patient needs, that planning of services, involving patients and users, and reflect the diverse population served. The post holder will be expected to provide senior leadership and people management, in order to recruit and retain high quality staff, provide effective appraisal and statutory training and promote team working and strong staff involvement in decision making within the sphere of their responsibilities.

This will include long term workforce planning and development. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that income and expenditure targets are met for allocated services while balancing the delivery of services. The post holder will ensure services are run in line with Trust values, culture, policies, and procedures.

Experience of effective working within teams is essential.
