Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency and Acute Medicine Department at Whipps Cross University Hospital for a Service Manager. The role is open to all applicants with a proven record of operational delivery and service management, or those wishing to progress their career with experience of staff management, service improvement and operational delivery.

With the goal of achieving excellence, you will actively participate in the operational management of the service and will monitor the performance of the team you support to ensure we are meeting national targets. You will work closely with your line manager to deliver the department's clinical strategy, working to achievable and realistic targets. The department is constantly seeking to improve the services it provides for our patient and there will be opportunities to lead and manage your own projects.

The Service Manager is a key management role and is responsible for the operational delivery of all aspects of the service areas. Key aims are:

  • Provide timely, efficient, and effective operational service management support, assisting the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians and General Manager to ensure that these services are responsive, innovative, and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards.

  • Take forward agreed projects to improve service delivery and patient experience in key areas.

  • Lead on ensuring that all performance/quality targets are met.

  • Problem-solve as appropriate, and develop and implement lasting solutions in conjunction with clinical colleagues.

  • To be a key member of the Divisional Management Team, taking full responsibility for actions and for keeping other team members fully informed at all times.

  • The post holder will manage the administrative function within the Emergency & Acute Medicine team within the Division. This includes a Service Delivery Manager, Medical Secretaries, Medical Rota Co-ordinators, and Reception Manager.

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers.

  • The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.
