Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist to join the laboratory team at the Exeter Sequencing Facility. We are a leading academic core facility based at the University of Exeter and provide Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics services to researchers and industry. We work with Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms to deliver high-quality sequence data for interpretation and analysis.
The opportunity:
You will join a busy lab and dynamic team environment and will support the sequencing facility to help deliver sequencing projects for internal and external researchers.
Your main roles will be:

  • To support the sequencing facility

  • To help deliver sequencing projects for internal and external researchers

  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for Illumina and Nanopore instruments

  • Undertake laboratory management, health and safety, risk assessments, reagent and equipment ordering when required

  • Understand, develop and update library preparation and sequencing choices as technology progresses

    Experience with complex molecular techniques (eg. preparing NGS libraries)

  • Experience in operating next-generation sequencers
    Experience of working in a molecular biology lab.
    Excellent record keeping & organisation.
    Excellent attention to detail
    Good communication skills and ability to work well as part of a team.
    Familiar with Windows, Sharepoint, MS Office.
    Willingness to develop new skills and protocols.
    Enthusiastic team worker.

    The starting salary will be from £ 26,444 up to £ 29,605 on Grade D, depending on qualifications and experience.
