Full Job Description

Support the Directors and Production Manager with all purchasing activity. Key tasks include the following specific tasks:

  • Responsibility for efficient and cost effective purchase of all raw materials and consumables

  • Assist with the evaluation of new raw materials and new suppliers

  • Responsibility for working with Managing Director to ensure adequate raw material stock

  • Assisted by the Senior Purchasing Assistant, manage and maintain a high-level 6-month plan ensuring there are adequate orders and purchase cost effectively based on future demand

  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating best cost and timely delivery

  • Manage improvement of production number recording & stock management to ensure traceability, accuracy and timeliness

  • Reviewing weekly KPI data generation based on labour and production volumes

  • Assist and support QA & Technical Manager to maintain site discipline

  • Participate in management meetings, when required, to provide all relevant information regarding production and raw material control

  • Work towards achieving and maintaining company processing targets, promoting team work and adaptability to the needs of the business as required

  • Supervise the ongoing training of all colleagues for quality aware issues and customer complaints reduction

  • Communicate at all times in an open manner in which everyone can raise issues of concern; and to the correct level to ensure the smooth operation of the department

  • Achievement of Quality Targets

  • Complete production records, pallet sheets and cleaning records accurately at all times

    The successful applicant needs to be able to work on their own initiative and manage workload after initial training. This would suit somebody who is self-motivated, very organised, and has great attention to detail.


  • Food sector purchasing is essential.,
  • High levels of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Experience with purchasing tasks

  • Good Excel knowledge

  • Able to communicate with customers, suppliers and senior management

  • Strong numeric and analytical skills, Purchasing: 2 years (required)

  • Food industry: 2 years (required)

    We are a speciality food manufacturing company and have an opportunity for an experienced full time Senior Buyer.


  • We are a family-owned ambient food manufacturer of high quality chutneys, condiments, dressings, and cooking sauces (located in Newbury, RG14 5PX) and are a rapidly growing company in a very secure industry. We are BRCGS AA accredited.

    The hours are 37.5 hours per week (equating to total of 42.5 hours in the workplace including breaks), 07:30-16:00 Monday to Friday.

    The salary is £35,000-40,000 dependent on experience. Wages are paid monthly. There is potential for growth in this role as we are an expanding business., Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
