Balfour Beatty has an amazing opportunity for a Section Engineer to act as Assistant Package Manager to join our amazing Major Projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London.

HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail
station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.

Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.

As the Assistant Package Manager you will be supporting the Package Manager who lead the management of various sub-contractors packages for site services and external permanent works such as lifting operations, tower cranes erections and dismantles, temporary works, demolition works, utilities, earthworks, excavations, fencing and reinforced concrete works that will be the foundation of the iconic Urban Realm of Old Oak Common HS2 Station.

What you'll be doing

Some key responsibilities will be:

  • Managing sub-activities through stages ranging from design, procurement, preconstruction, consents, construction & handover:

  • Ensuring a safe, healthy, environmentally sound delivery of all works entrusted.

  • Managing Activity Readiness certification

  • Documentation management through approval process and liaison with BBVS wider team

  • Liaising between subcontractors to resolve/escalate any clashes.

  • Ensure progress of works entrusted is accurately reported and documented.

  • Monitoring quality & assurance of subcontractors activities and close out non conformances

  • Constructability reviews

  • Construction sequence & programme analysis

  • Interfaces analysis and identification of risks

  • Value Engineering proposals & innovations research/implementation

  • Identification of scope, gaps and changes for active and in procurement subcontracts

    You will have the following:

  • Previous experience in a site-based construction role in major civils/infrastructure construction project

  • Valid CSCS card

  • Construction related degree (BSC/BEng/MSC/MEng)

  • Experience supporting the management of subcontractor activities in similar nature of works
