Full Job Description

As a Ranger, you're the heart and soul of the National Trust in the landscapes we protect. You're a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you'll play a crucial role in keeping the nation's beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

Based in Woolacombe, part of the Morte Estate stretching from Croyde to Ilfracombe, you would be joining an ambitious team who are working to create a more resilient and dynamic landscape in the face of the nature and climate emergency. This includes the planting of trees, encouraging species rich grassland, conservation grazing and trialling techniques to slow water flows and reconnect watercourses with their floodplains

You'll take the lead in developing and delivering our wildlife monitoring and survey programme, recruiting wildlife monitoring volunteers and sharing your knowledge and passion for wildlife with our existing Ranger team so that we can track and monitor the changes we are implementing for nature and wildlife on the property. You will use your knowledge and experience to support the Rangers and volunteers to deliver habitat and estate management across the property. You'll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you'll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You'll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You'll build relationships in the local community, work with our farm tenants and proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.

  • experienced in managing land, access and conservation, and working outdoors

  • able to use machinery and equipment, with relevant certificates

  • a driver with a full UK driving licence
