Full Job Description

This is a site or multi-site Quality Assurance role that operates singularly or within a team to both audit GKNAF site processes against Regulatory, Customer, Filton Business Management and Third Party accreditation requirements, and provide support during external audits of the Filton & Western Approach sites by customers and organisations external to GKN For the assigned sites (Filton & Western Approach), assist the Quality site leader(s) in the delivery of the annual Internal Audit schedule, and supporting external audits of both sites by the Regulator, Customer and all other third party accreditation bodies.

How You'll Contribute

Planning, Conducting, and Reporting on audits conducted, and managing to satisfactory completion any Non-Conformance identified.
As an integral element of audit preparation, reviewing pertinent process documentation, regulation, and specifications to develop robust audit questions and criteria.
Providing appropriate, timely written constructive feedback via the Audit Report to process owners and the site leadership team that delivers a concise, independent assessment of business / functional levels of compliance, recognition of good practice, levels of people engagement and an executive summary of audit activities.
Conduct or support the audit Opening and Closing meeting process
Provide advice and support to the Auditee and/or their team to establishing root cause and corrective action activities when requested to do so.
Identify and share across the business, best practices and support continuous improvement of the BMS/QMS and its processes.
Propagate Quality Culture across GKN Aerospace.
As business needs require, support other sites with their auditing activities.

  • Certification, or obtained training, as an Internal or External Auditor through a certified Training Partner

  • Possess the necessary personal attributes/behaviours to act in accordance with the principles of auditing as described in ISO 19011.

  • Demonstrable domain knowledge of Aviation Regulators (EASA, FAA etc.) & contracted customer quality requirements.

  • Knowledge and general understanding of the key manufacturing and support function activities conducted at Filton and ideally Western Approach

  • Knowledge in the use of risk based methods and techniques (ISO 31000) for audit planning and management;

  • Demonstrable experience in Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Route Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) Techniques in order to provide effective audit follow up / closure assessments.

  • Experience in undertaking Internal Audits against the audit process requirements defined within ISO 19011

  • Demonstrable knowledge of ASENJISQ9100 / ISO 9001 and IAQG SLA Frameworks and experience of Quality Management Systems/Process Approach.

  • An effective communicator both written and verbally with experience in MS applications/tools.


  • Desirable:
  • Continuous improvement foundation training or equivalent training

  • Industry experience within a Manufacturing environment (APQP) preferably aerospace/automotive.

  • Thorough understanding of the content and application of the IAQG / EAQG ISO Standards and IAQG SCMH.

  • Experience in the use of the IAQG OASIS database for the input to audit planning.

  • Knowledge of Business Process Management and the APQC Process Classification Framework.

  • Knowledge of AS13100 and the associated reference materials.
