Full Job Description

Chesterfield Borough Council holds an extensive property portfolio. As a consequence, we are in the enviable position of being able to offer a very diverse and interesting caseload to the successful candidate. This includes acting for the Council on the letting of a wide range of commercial accommodation, including retail and industrial premises, offices and hi tech units. The team also deals with a continuing programme of exciting schemes, including sales of both land and premises and a number of high value and complex matters. The post holder will play a key role in delivering this priority work. This work runs alongside the day to day work of a busy Local Government legal office, is able to offer. Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of conveyancing procedure, recent and sound experience of commercial landlord and tenant matters, and the ability to take on a wide and varied caseload.

The post holder will also be required to deliver quality advice and drafting in relation to public procurement and contract matters, and ideally will have practical experience of handling these areas of work, advising clients on tenders/procurement processes, including procurement regulations, and preparing /drafting contracts in a local government setting.

Sound commercial awareness, excellent communication skills, a dynamic and innovative approach to the delivery of a high-quality legal service combined with the ability to fit into a small and friendly team would be ideal qualities to successfully undertake this role.
