Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager - Civils to work on the Southern Integrated Delivery project based in Tonbridge.

With the SID, the Southern Region seeks to make a transformational change in how renewals work is delivered, by merging the capabilities of Network Rail and its supply chain to develop an integrated and coordinated approach to delivery.

Key accountabilities

Key duties will include:

  • Responsible for advising the Project Team on the construction of Civils works

  • Responsible for ensuring that all Civils activities are installed to the approved design and is compliant with client and industry standards

  • Manage the construction budget on projects and ensure there is robust change control mechanisms in place

  • Provide input to the project planner including the production of box plans, access plans and look ahead programmes as required

  • Participate in project construction/planning meetings

  • Participate and chair PDR & White Board meetings including the collation or production of white board presentations and information including RACE cards, SSOW packs, lift plans, access plans and possession management arrangements

  • Undertake site monitoring and other quality checks

  • Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements and all relevant client and/or VolkerRail standards

  • Undertake Cat 3 audits and managements checks

  • Ensure compliance with CDM undertaking the production of WPP's & risk assessments

  • Establish and maintain project files

  • Manage and direct the Civils Supervisors, providing support as necessary.

  • Undertake Responsible Manager duties

    You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role.


  • The candidate will also have the following Experience/skill set:
  • Proven experience in Civils & Construction works including an appropriate period of time acting in a Managerial or Supervisory capacity.

  • Proven experience in railway Civils Engineering and construction including associated railway standards.

  • Project planning, sequencing of works and critical path planning.

  • Commercial awareness and ability to produce and maintain construction budgets

  • Relevant infrastructure / railway experience

  • ONC Civil Engineering degree or related discipline with an HNC as a minimum

  • With the following competencies : PTS, DCCR and first aid at work

  • With the following skill set : SMSTS, CDM 2015, IOSH, Responsible Manager

  • Ability to operate effectively in the site environment.

  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Experience at team working/collaborating.

  • Must have full UK Driving licence
