  • Working with Heads of Services, Business Partners, and other key stakeholders, you will develop and agree projects briefs, PIDs, and resource plans, while being responsible for the day-to-day management of projects, ensuring its completion to agreed cost, time and quality criteria.

    This will often involve working and negotiating with external suppliers, as well as the management of a virtual project team. The post requires strong influencing skills and the ability to bring together project sponsors (usually senior managers), expert advisers, external consultants, contractors and end users together to form an effective team focussed on delivery of the programme.

    We are looking for project managers who:
  • Are experienced in PRINCE II project management (or equivalent).

  • Understand the need for good project processes and governance.

  • May have had exposure to agile project delivery.

  • Able to manage large project budgets.

  • Able to successfully manage virtual project teams.

  • Have good communication, engagement, and organisational skills.

  • And present a credibility to the post.


  • Recent and ongoing projects include:
  • Replacing our legal case management solution

  • Transitioning our reporting landscape from Business Objects to Power BI

  • Reviewing the replacement for our key corporate back office systems

  • M365 - roll out of OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint and replacing our intranet

  • Introduction of a new case management and CRM for fostering

  • Replacement of our core housing systems


  • In your new role, your place of work will be at our offices based in Brighton and Hove. Please note that the successful applicant will be expected to attend the Brighton & Hove offices on a regular basis so living within commuting distance is a must. We do offer some flexible Hybrid working as agreed with your line manager to meet both the needs of the project and the service.

    East Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council, and Surrey County Council collaborate on several business services and therefore the successful post-holder needs to be flexible in terms of working across these organisations as project demands arise.
