The UCLH/UCL partnership has been awarded Biomedical Research Centre status by the National Institute for Health Research and cancer research is one of its four major themes.

In 2012, the new £110 million UCH Macmillan Cancer Centre opened opposite the UCL Cancer Institute, the hub for cancer research and translation research. This is the UK's most advanced out-patient cancer care facility. The UCL Cancer Institute has a total grant income over £100 million, houses over 350 scientists, and includes many clinician scientists among its 57 Group leaders. The Institute is an internationally recognised centre for cancer research, housing state-of-the-art core facilities funded by the CRUK-UCL Centre, including next generation sequencing,

These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQI+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women. They will lead a neuro-oncology research group, and will have plans for future grant applications. There are opportunities to develop an educational programme, and to take part in the teaching and mentoring of graduate clinical and non-clinical scientists. This position will form an important part of the wider UCLH/UCL Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) portfolio, and the Cancer Research UK Centre at UCL.

The appointee will be a member of the UCL Cancer Institute, and will seek opportunities to establish collaborations with group leaders in the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. They will contribute to the educational activities of the Institute and its Division of Neurosurgery.
