Full Job Description

Clinical Practice1. Undertake clinical duties to the highest standard, ensuring quality of care at alltimes.2. Adhere to all Trust, Critical Care and Emergency Division Health and SafetyPolicies.3. Maintain a safe environment for all patients, staff and visitors.4. Use effective communication to liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinaryteam.Staff Management1. Act as mentor/preceptor for students and junior staff.2. Actively participate in unit training/teaching programmes ensuring a good learningclimate at all times.Quality Assurance1. Participate in the setting and review of quality standards and ensure they arecommunicated to all staff.2. Participate in Audit Projects as required.3. Participate in Research Projects ensuring that clinical practice is based on asound knowledge of study base.Personal Review and Development1. Demonstrate a positive commitment to enhancing the role and profile of the eyeclinic and its staff with the hospital.2. To participate in the Trusts
Personal Development Plan process (PDP) settingagreed objectives annually and regular reviews.Other Duties1. Ensure that all Trust/Unit Policies are complied with.2. Ensure that all statutory study days are undertaken annually.3. Take part in the in-service training days.Health and Safety ResponsibilitiesTo ensure that the Trusts Health and Safety Policies are understood and observed andthat procedures are followed.To ensure the appropriate use of equipment and facilities and that the workingenvironment is maintained in good order.To take the necessary precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of yourself,patients, visitors, and staff, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.To undertake appropriate health and safety training to support safe working practice,including where appropriate, its management.To demonstrate a practical understanding of risk assessment in relation to their areas ofresponsibility and to ensure safe systems of work are in place.To ensure that all
incidents occurring within the department are reported in accordancewith Trust procedures, investigated and corrective action taken as necessary and/orreported to senior management and specialist advisers.Moving and Handling ResponsibilitiesTo ensure that all moving and handling tasks within their area of responsibility areassessed, that there is a manual handling plan indicating safe systems of work, and thatdocumentation is regularly maintained and updated.To observe and monitor the application of M&H skills, ensuring safe practice.To attend appropriate training in accordance with the M&H assessed risks within the workarea.ConfidentialityAll staff are required to respect confidentiality of all matters that they learn as a result oftheir employment with the NHS, including matters relating to other members of staff,patients and members of the public.Equality and DiversityAll employees are required to follow and implement the Trust's equal opportunities policyand to undergo any training

Staff must also ensure theyreceive the appropriate level of safeguarding children and vulnerable adult trainingdepending on their role in the Trust.Infection ControlIt is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that they understand and follow the infectioncontrol policies, procedures and best practice applicable within the Trust. In particular:- Observe all infection control policies and practices relevant to the post- Act as a role model to others regarding infection control best practice- Ensure
that they keep up to date and attend all relevant training relating toinfection control issues applicable to their post.- Ensure that patients, visitors and contractors are aware of and follow infectioncontrol best practice (where applicable).- Report non-compliance or concerns regarding infection control issues / bestpractice to their line managerTrust ValuesTo work inline with the Trust values and promote these within teams, departments anddivisions in the Trust.Please note that this job description is not an exhaustive list of duties but merely aguide to the responsibilities of the post holder.
