Full Job Description

To work as part of a team caring for the physical and social needs of each

Resident in a calm, relaxed and respectful manner during the night time period. The duties for this role will include;

· To help residents with differing needs through the night to enable them to achieve a comfortable nights rest as per their care plan.

· To answer the nurse bell promptly and assist where needed

· To record any accidents in the accident book and report to the appropriate

Person

· To accompany doctors, nurses etc, where appropriate, to see each resident in Private

· To record a brief summary of each resident on a nightly basis, to enable all to achieve continuity of care

· Be aware of Fire exits, fire precautions, evacuation procedures, location of first aid box, important telephone numbers, call bell system, stair lift operation

· Be aware of missing client procedures

· To take accurate messages and record all such messages or enquiries in diary or telephone log book

· To prepare any vegetables if requested and clear away, leaving kitchen clean and tidy, adhering to hygiene standards

· Trained medication staff to give residents their prescribed medication at times indicated, and to sign Mar sheet correctly

· To do laundry and ironing

Staff

  • To arrive at work in sufficient time to be on duty at the specified time

  • To participate in supervision with a designated Care Team Manager at least six times a year

  • To participate in the Induction of staff

  • To promote team working

  • To participate in determining own work loads

  • To attend staff meetings and training when it's required

  • To have respect for all residents and staff in the home

  • Make visitors feel welcome.

  • Provide refreshments/assistance when required

  • To report any faults/defects in the Home to the Registered Manager or appropriate persons/seniors on shift.

  • To be fully aware of the fire policy and the awareness of food hygiene regulations

  • To ensure you are familiar with all current policies and procedures and understand your duty to comply and implement them when necessary

  • To wear uniform provided with plain black trousers and flat sensible shoes at all times

  • To be aware of the residents' confidentiality at all times

  • Ensure that you do not use a mobile telephone while on duty

  • To ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties

  • To keep all records of cleaning work completed after each shift in the appropriate book

  • Understand your duty to whistleblow if you witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the Home

  • To wear an identification badge at all times

  • To promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home at all times


  • Health & Safety
  • To ensure all housekeeping records are completed daily and that they are legible

  • To ensure that you work in a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.

  • To make safe any hazard immediately after identification and then report to the Registered Manager


  • To comply with all COSHH and Health & Safety requirements and to ensure implementation of all Policies and Procedures throughout the home, including PPE and Fire

  • To take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions

  • To be fully aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures and appropriate hand hygiene technique

  • To report immediately to the Registered Manager of any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another

  • To clean up any spillages that you have made, found or been asked to do


  • The Home has adopted a NO SMOKING policy which applies to all posts within the Home. Smoking may be carried out in a designated area. The outside door is to be kept closed at all times to prevent the smell of smoke coming back into the Home

    Ideally to have experience in an elderly care environment but not essential as training will be given

  • To be willing to participate in National Vocational Training Programmes if necessary

  • To have good communication skills

  • To have the ability to work effectively within a team environment, Care Assistant: 1 year (Preferred), GCSE or equivalent (Preferred)

    Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

  • Part-time hours: 12/24 per week

    Pay: £8.95-£10.15 per hour
