Full Job Description

This is a 12 month Fixed-Term contract, BBC South-East has an opportunity to be part of our digital team, reporting on the stories that matter from across Kent, Sussex and Surrey.
You'll be dealing with on-the-day breaking news stories but this role would also suit someone who can come up with original ideas that reflect the audiences who live across the region.
It is a multimedia role with an emphasis on digital-first storytelling and you will work as part of the wider BBC South East news operation. We are establishing new workflows so adaptability and teamwork will be essential, as are strong communication skills. This job may involve shift and weekend working., Local knowledge of the patch is essential, as is a passion for storytelling. You will produce local news content for the BBC website and social media accounts for the region and beyond. You'll be ready to produce fast, accurate copy when a big story breaks - it's likely to be on the BBC News front page, so you'll need to be confident writing quickly. You'll also be responsible for originating and producing stories for the BBC website.
You will work with colleagues to ensure all our journalism works across digital, TV and audio platforms and you will tailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
You will look to ensure a full diversity of contributors, meeting high journalistic standards and observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.

You'll have experience of written daily news journalism on newspapers, websites or agencies. You'll also have sound editorial judgement, making decisions on matters of editorial sensitivity such as court, inquests or tribunals under pressure. You will be able to write clean, accurate and concise copy with quick turnaround times, for publication on the BBC website and you will be familiar with social media in a news context and know how to make the most of various platforms to reach a range of audiences. You will have a keen eye for strong imagery to make stories standout online and be able do basic photo editing. You'll really care about reaching and engaging with a truly diverse audience.

The contractual base will be BBC Radio Kent (Tunbridge Wells), with variable hours.

Salary: £26,975 - £34,528 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
