Full Job Description

Central Office staff work closely with schools, offering a wealth of expertise to underpin schools' own knowledge. Our specialist departments, including HR, finance, technology, strategy and performance, estates, and marketing, collaborate with dedicated school improvement teams. By joining us, you will provide ongoing support to schools, improving the outcomes of our staff and students in our schools., As Project Support Officer (HR) you will join as part of the central People function and work within the HR team, to create new, more efficient, and inclusive ways of working.

Reporting into the Strategic HR Projects Lead and working alongside a HR Policy and Project Specialist, this role combines responsibility for developing, coordinating, and implementing tasks that relate to the delivery of key strategic HR projects that are linked to delivery of the 5y People Strategy.

Working as part of a large complex matrix structure organisation you will have the opportunity to work with HR colleagues and alongside colleagues in the Central team and in schools.

Your duties will include:

  • Project Support - providing support to the Strategic HR Projects Lead and HR Policy and Projects Specialist, to deliver tasks, and activities for United Learning in relation to Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), Recruitment and Retention, Talent Management, Flexible Working and other HR Projects as may be required.

  • Policy Support - providing support to the HR Projects Specialist to maintain the HR Policy portal and ensure that all HR policies and associated guidance documents are kept up to date and reflect the correct terms and conditions and take account of latest statutory guidance and legislation.

  • Projects Administration - support the development of new processes and procedures and contribute to the compilation of surveys and reports to deliver project outcomes. Work with schools to ensure that these are implemented in an efficient and effective way that recognises local context and the needs of different stakeholder groups across schools and Central Office.

  • Research & Analysis - undertake analysis of relevant data and research to identify trends and to inform project outcomes, support the production of data and reports in appropriate formats for different stakeholder groups.


  • You will be working with stakeholders across the group - education specialists who need information providing succinctly, completely, and quickly. The ideal candidate must have a flexible approach to meet the needs of the Trust, be able to work to work within a fast paced, complex, matrix organisation. Experience of being able to work to meet tight deadlines and be able to adaptable to manage competing and changing priorities is therefore essential.

  • A CIPD qualification (or be studying towards), or a degree level qualification or equivalent experience.

  • A passion for Diversity & Inclusion, and problem solving in schools.

  • Experience of providing administrative support to projects or delivering project related tasks in a school setting.

  • Able to demonstrate experience of good stakeholder management in a school setting with experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Able to provide support and organise own work for optimum effectiveness, and willing to engage with appropriate resources, tools, and methods to enable projects to run efficiently.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in challenging timescales.

  • Ability to understand, analyse and interpret a range of information from different sources.

  • Experience of using IT systems to monitor, analyse, review and guide managers using the data available.

  • An intellectual curiosity, openness to learning and a willingness to consider new ways of doing things.

  • Strong emotional intelligence and ability to engage peers and develop credibility with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to present a professional and credible service to build trust and confidence in senior leaders in the advice provided.

  • The ability to travel to Head Office and Schools as required.
