Full Job Description

Our Highway Inspection team ensures that we comply with our duty to maintain the highway through inspection and defect identification in accordance with the Highways Act 1980. By complying with our duty we ensure that the highway is safe for highway users.
Main Responsibilities

Working closely with the Inspection Manager, other Highway Inspectors and other teams across the authority you'll ensure we deliver a good service for stakeholders in accordance with our policies and procedures and to comply with our duties under the Highways Act.

You will:

  • Undertake driven, walked or cycled inspections

  • Receive, prioritise, investigate and answer queries relating to the service including enforcement actions

  • Represent the council in respect of claims against the authority including attending court

  • Manage your individual workload to ensure required inspections and enquiries are completed within the relevant timescales

    You should:

  • possess excellent inter-personal and customer service skills,

  • be able to deal with a range of issues and conflicting demands whilst adhering to relevant legislation

  • be able to deliver to tight deadlines and keeping calm under pressure.

  • demonstrate a positive 'can do' attitude., Hold or be willing to train to acquire relevant accreditation - Highway Safety Inspectors Training (IHE approved syllabus), NRSWA Supervisors card and LANTRA 12D (M7)

  • Previous experience of highway maintenance on undertaking safety inspections.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, SharePoint and safety inspection systems such as CONFIRM.

  • Awareness of relevant legislation and codes of practice such as Highways Act 1980 and Well Managed Highway Infrastructure

  • Full clean UK driving licence., Disability Confident
