Across a vast array of drilling riser systems, well abandonment equipment and structures, Claxton delivers pragmatic, safe reliable solutions to the operating challenges faced by our clients. We have a Global team with a singular mission, to make our clients projects happen., Claxton are looking to hire a Head of Operations, based at their facility in Great Yarmouth, the Head of Operations will be responsible for the overall management of the Operations function and responsible for driving efficient operations and meeting project and maintenance demands. Driving highest standards of QHSE practices and supports the strategic plan and business improvements. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage a framework for regular communication and updates, reviews performance, and identifies opportunities for improvement along with close monitoring of Operations, Procurement & facilities support focusing on costs, time writing, and data accuracy, and provides leadership, direction, and development to the operations team.

The role holder will be a member of the leadership team of Claxton Great Yarmouth and will, therefore, be involved in the wider strategic issues of the business, including strategies for growth and business improvement. You will provide visible and demonstrable leadership to create and sustain a proactive and accountable safety culture amongst all staff. Employing a 'One Claxton' mind-set, you will engage closely with other Claxton sites and global function leaders to both provide and receive support where required or beneficial.,

  • Drive compliance of the Operations team to all relevant policies and processes (including HSE) within the management system (IMS) for the Operations function, feedback any areas of improvement. As requested, and proactively, provide input for policies and procedures within the IMS.

  • Perform resource planning to ensure sufficient resourcing of the Operations functions (onshore and offshore) based on the business Project Forecast and other sustaining activities required.

  • Provide input and support for all new systems implemented in the business.

  • Regularly evaluate and review the Operations function activities, driving the delivery of efficient operations able to safely meet the demands of live projects and maintenance requirements.

  • Create a framework and rhythm for regular communications, updates, and comparison of actual performance to planned performance, continually review to identify opportunities for improvement.

  • As required put forward considered business cases for new initiatives or piece of change, where accepted ensure all areas of change management are identified and managed using the appropriate system.

  • Ensure GY facilities are managed to achieve routine and ad-hoc maintenance being performed safely and to budget and any capex requirements are addressed.

  • Manage the Operations function within the agreed annual and monthly target for costs.

  • Ensure time writing completeness and regular review/analysis by line managers in the function to ensure correct codes are used and overtime is appropriate.

  • Work with the Global Resources team in maintaining an oversight and governance for all facets within Claxton ERP system, focusing on data accuracy and process governance, allowing accurate reporting and asset management.

  • Provide motivational leadership to the Operations function to ensure that effective teamwork and collaboration achieves the operational demands.

  • Provide clear strategic direction to the Operations functions, setting goals, deliverables, and key performance indicators.

  • Regularly meet with direct reports to review business performance against Functional goals and KPI's also their own performance with these.

  • Set and regularly review line reports goals, training, and development (in the company system). Ensure that individual goals align to the Functional / company goals.

  • Ensure that the optimal teams are in place to deliver the business requirements (regularly consider resource levels, skill requirements and succession planning).

  • Ensure direct reports are developed and coached to be high performing and to cascade to their own line reports. Any performance issues are dealt with in a timely fashion and documented accordingly.

  • Drive accountability through the Operations function.

  • Work with the Global Resources Team to drive the engagement and compliance with the Claxton training management system and competency management system.

  • Ensure requirements for Third party competency evaluation are adhered to when contract labour is utilized in the Operations function to ensure a safe and competent workforce.

  • Active member of the Great Yarmouth senior management team: -

  • Actively drive a proactive HSE culture through top-down leadership and leading by example, including regular HSE discussion as a primary topic, diligent HSE reporting and follow up on the Intelex system.

  • Provide regular functional updates to the General Manager and provide timely update on issues.

  • Support the GM and work with the rest of the leadership team to develop and implement the Company's strategic plan, annual business plan and associated objectives for the Great Yarmouth business.

  • Work with Finance department to drive accountability for cost and profitability through the Operations function.

  • Work with the General Manager and other members of the leadership team to define and deliver growth strategies and business improvements.

  • Work with stakeholders to continually evaluate own functional area of the business in terms of performance (strengths and weaknesses) and its interaction with other functional areas - drive new ideas and continuous improvement.

  • Comply with and promote the Company's vision, values, and policies, and comply with all legal requirements.

  • Support management of change within the operation following the company's process

  • Complete internal audits and participate in external audits as required.

    Degree in a relevant technical or business discipline or appropriate time served experience.

  • IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.

  • Internal auditing.

  • Significant experience of the upstream oilfield sector preferably within a business that is focused on drilling, Decommissioning, well services or subsea services.

  • Business and quality management systems used to support an operations function.

  • Safe systems of work and QHSE practices.

  • Technical knowledge and experience of the products and services offered by Claxton.

  • Risk Management.

  • Experience of Workshop /Maintenance operations.

  • Experience of Offshore Operations, delivering to deadlines.

  • Experience of Warehouse and logistics functions.

  • Well-rounded business manager with technical / engineering awareness, combined with experience of planning and executing operations.

  • Experience of an environment where timelines can change, and alternative solutions need to be developed.

  • Experience of cost control against budgets and driving accountability throughout the operations function.

  • Has worked at a Senior Management level.

  • Experience introducing processes & systems (physical & digital) that subsequently bring workflow improvement.

  • Experience managing up, down across and working with different role types.

  • Can employ various working styles and develop and build effective teams.

  • Strategic planning and business growth experience.

  • Goal and KPI setting and evaluation.

  • Preparation of business proposals for change.

  • Experience of Supply Chain and facilities management.

  • P&L Management.

  • Appreciation of contractual and commercial risk and development of mitigation strategies.

  • Solve problems effectively and reactively as required.

  • Able to influence individuals and groups to build relationships and drive change.

  • Clear communicator, providing clear and motivational leadership.

  • Able to take a strategic view whilst managing and executing at a detailed level where necessary.

  • Assess and where appropriate reduce inefficiency to improve operational, safety and financial performance.

  • Aligns performance goals systematically to drive performance.

  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office packages.

  • ERP, or equivalent, systems for management of assets, inventory, and maintenance.
