Full Job Description

Are you intrigued by the prospect of working closely with senior government officials to deliver the UK’s objectives? We may have the role for you within the Public Spending group!

About the Team

The Defence, Diplomacy and Intelligence (DDI) team is a close-knit team of around 17 people. We work across National Security strategy and spending, and take the lead on a fascinating and exciting area of work. Our focus is on the effective and efficient use of taxpayer's money to deliver the UK's defence and security objectives.

We’re committed to being an excellent place to work, with a focus on good management, learning and development, and continuous improvement in everything we do.

About the Job

In this role, you will:

  • Lead oversight of the Single Intelligence Account's (SIA) in-year financial management and estimates process with a view to delivering value for money and effective national security outputs
  • Deliver the next spending review, leading Treasury's preparations to understand the inner workings of the SIA, establishing shared priorities and working closely with the Cabinet Office to shape and scrutinise bids. You will lead negotiations with the UK Intelligence Community and advise ministers on how to deliver a balanced settlement
  • Lead on HM Treasury's national security policy, working collaboratively across Treasury on issues ranging from counter-terrorism, state threats and emerging technology to ensure growth and prosperity

It's an exciting time to join us. You'll operate at the heart of the UK's national security community, acting as the HM Treasury spending principal for the UK Intelligence Community. The sensitivity of this work presents unique challenges, and you'll have a high level of exposure to senior officials and ministers within HM Treasury.

About You

If you're able to interpret and analyse data from various sources to support decisions, and you can effectively balance competing priorities, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll work with a high degree of autonomy and discretion, so you must be comfortable exercising your judgement.

Some of the Benefits our people love!

  • 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King’s birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
  • Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
  • Generous parental and adoption leave packages
  • Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 27%
  • Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances
  • A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity
