Full Job Description

As Head of Finance you'll be responsible for ensuring that all financial processes at Heysham 2 Power Station are delivered and followed accurately and efficiently, identifying opportunities to provide financial and commercial value whilst supporting and steering the location's performance in line with the company's strategic and financial objectives.

A key part of the role will be helping influence the wider station to increase their levels of commercial understanding and acumen. In addition, you'll be supporting the Station Management Team in providing both financial challenge and control within the Station, liaising with internal stakeholders on site, across our nuclear fleet and with the central finance team. You'll need to share best practice and support cross-fleet initiatives to drive continuous improvement and performance.,

  • Ensuring consistent application of financial governance and control arrangements at the business unit

  • Providing financial challenge, support and leadership for the station

  • Developing the station's financial medium-term plans taking into account business conditions and constraints

  • Ensuring that the finance team delivers an effective output and budget planning, and financial reporting service to the station and Nuclear Decommissioning function.

  • Assessing any commercial risks to the station and ensures implementation of agreed strategies / procedures for commercial risk management. When appropriate seek support from central finance / Nuclear Decommissioning teams to minimise risk exposure

  • Ensuring that an effective financial accountability system is in place at the station.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day accountability of the finance function, and ensuring standards and expectations are maintained, including appropriate and effective deployment of the required company standards, policies, governance, regulations, procedures and legislation.

  • Engagement with all major stakeholders (internal and external) to achieve objectives and to develop a positive and progressive commercial culture.

  • Active member of the fleet finance peer groups

If this sounds like the role for you, please read on about our opening at Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station in Lancashire!, As Finance Manager you need to be a qualified accountant with a recognised UK Professional Organisation (e.g., ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA) and/or hold a relevant degree. Finance and/or accounting experience with strong numerical and analytical skills is essential, alongside a working knowledge of technical accounting standards. You'll need good commercial awareness and knowledge of the energy sector, preferably with experience working in a highly regulated environment. Experience of financial systems (SAP) is required.


  • You'll need a proven ability to implement a strong culture of control and governance, engaging your team by providing leadership and role modelling inclusive behaviours. You should have excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills to explain complex issues clearly and effectively influence stakeholders to deliver results. High levels of personal confidence, credibility, professionalism and integrity are paramount, alongside a track-record of your ability to work closely with non-Finance senior management.

    We can offer a competitive salary from £54,391 to £84,892 and you'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
