Calais Light is a registered charity supporting refugees in France and the UK generating awareness, becoming refugee champions, promoting social acceptance and understanding and fostering social inclusion and integration.

What will you be doing?

Calais Light seeks an Operational Trustee specializing in Finance.

Qualities and Experience desirable (not essential) for the role:

  • Applicants who have a 'heart for refugees"

  • Operational Charity background would be fabulous.

  • Diverse - ethnic minority background or lived refugee experience


  • We need an experienced Accountant to act as our Treasurer, produce Management Accounts, manage our Gift Aid function and offer financial expertise and strategic & budgetary understanding to the wider Board.

    Commitment Operational Trustee
  • 5 hours a week, working with the CEO & Ops Team. You must be accessible to the Ops Team.


  • Commitment Classic Trustee
  • Minimum commitment of circa 6-10 hours per month. This will cover your attendance at evening board meetings, held virtually, time required to read reports and input to board activity, and any sub-committees you join., Prudently managing our 'big picture' Financial operations, managing risk and ensuring compliance with charity regulations as well as user-friendly, effective interaction with our supporter base.

  • Management of Gift Aid

  • Provision of Management Accounts

  • Financial feedback to Charity Commission

  • Responsibility along with other trustees for the governance of the charity, approving operational strategies and policies, monitoring and evaluating their implementation in line with our charitable objectives.

  • Acting as a 'critical friend' to our Executive CEO and Lead Trustee.

  • Working as an ambassador for the charity raising awareness of what we do and engaging potential supporters and other key stakeholders.

  • Participating in board meetings and sub-committees.

    This is an essential role in our organization. Your Financial expertise will ensure the ongoing success of Calais Light. We need someone to keep us on track financially and ensure the charity meets its objectives of championing the support of refugees and the positive contribution they can make so enabling improved local understanding and social integration. To do this we need to remain financially viable to maximize our support and deliver tangible benefits to the refugee community. As part of our board you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, and help us achieve our purpose to enable greater support to Refugees both in the UK and in France.
