Full Job Description

  • This role will be predominantly site based, travel across the UK will be expected with overnight stays, as well as attending the office located in Annesley, Nottinghamshire.

    Building on our excellent relationships with our customers, Morrison Energy Services continues to expand our workbook to deliver overhead line projects to the highest standard. To meet these exciting opportunities, we are looking for an enthusiastic and competent Environmental Advisor to work within our Electrical Transmission Division. This role will be site based and will cover the whole of the UK so a driving licence and willingness to travel are essential requirements.


  • Our Environmental Advisors are a key part of our SHEQ Team, responsible for day-to-day environmental management of high-profile projects, working directly with site teams and customer representatives. The role relies on excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor the explanation of complex technical information to different site teams and third parties. Our Environmental Advisors are our key points of contact for liaison with customers, regulatory bodies, stakeholders, community groups and other important individuals and stakeholders.

    The nature of our business is changing and, as well as providing a key role in maintaining essential services we are moving towards construction of new nationally significant infrastructure to deliver the Governments' carbon commitments. Experience of working to Town and Country Planning Act and / or Development Consent Orders would be beneficial.

    As an Environmental Advisor, you will provide specialist support in environmental risks, advice, training, controls and mitigation through project tendering, Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and construction stages of a project. You will need to be able to review a large amount of information and extract the key elements to inform the teams you are working with. Written responses to tender questions, including risks, opportunities, innovations and so on are key to our success in winning future work. Working alongside our specialist partners and internal colleagues you will develop costs and ensure programmes and working methodologies are achievable and suitable to the work package.

    Our Advisors are expected to have an active interest in environmental and sustainability issues and a wide breadth of knowledge on subjects such as waste management, data analysis, sustainability issues, ecology, cultural heritage, consents, pollution, water management and so on. But don't worry, on the job training and mentoring is provided to improve any gaps in knowledge. If you have a specialism, please let us know in your application. Ideally, you would have a degree in an environmental subject or associated subject and have a membership with a recognised environmental institution. This knowledge base allows our Advisors to have the ability to think on their feet and make educated and pragmatic decisions in sometimes difficult situations. You will be expected to be a problem solver.

    Time management skills are also essential to this role. Our Environmental Advisors are expected to prioritise a high workload to meet the expectations of the teams they are working with, having the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will be expected attend client, project, team and wider business unit meetings as required along with undertaking regular site visits, including surveys, inspections and audits to ensure that site works meet the expected controls, mitigation and restrictions. Experience of working in an environmental capacity in a construction environment is desirable, but not essential.     Proven research skills and excellent computer literacy are required to review and gather required information to produce key contractual documentation including, but not limited to Environmental Management Plans, Site Waste Management Plans, Toolbox Talks, awareness training packages, desktop surveys and occasional site walkover surveys.

    Proven analytical skills are required to be able to review specialist documentation such as consents, RAMS, ecological method statements, tender information etc. to advise and guide project and bids teams. You will also be required to assist in the collation and reporting of data to meet internal and customer KPI's.

    Our Environmental Advisors are expected to directly obtain, or assist in the obtaining of, consents, assents, licences and permits required to undertake works. Proven experience of this is desirable but not essential. Knowledge of ecological survey methods, assessment techniques, mitigation and control measures is desirable.

    Working alongside the Environment and Sustainability Manager, our Environmental Advisors directly influence the way the company is run through the development, maintenance and implementation of environmental management procedures and processes to ensure the business is legally compliant and delivers continual improvement, good practices and dissemination of such to others. A knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and auditing is desirable, but not essential, as on the job training will be provided where needed. The ability to form excellent working relationships within and across business units and the wider group is essential to build rapport and influence others to make decisions.

    Assisting the Environment and Sustainability Manager to deliver sustainability targets and commitments through our Sustainability Strategy, the role offers the chance to implement meaningful changes to our business unit, sector and group not only to meet our carbon and waste targets, but on wider topics such as upskilling of our workforce and enabling improvements to the communities we work in. An understanding of key sustainability issues is desirable.
