Full Job Description

The Council is looking for an enthusiastic and efficient Commissioner to:

  • work in partnership with stakeholders and residents to deliver the Living Well With Dementia element of its Ageing Well Strategy;


  • procure an outcome-focused Dynamic Purchasing Vehicle for Day Opportunities;


  • work in partnership with the internal Day Opportunities Team to a) review and redesign the Transport offer; and b) develop paid supported employment opportunities for working-age Care Act residents.

    You should have experience in all aspects of the commissioning cycle and be able to critically appraise service delivery to develop innovative local solutions.

    You must be able to demonstrate experience of successfully commissioning excellent services and, given the specialised nature of the portfolio area, expert knowledge of Health and Adult Social Care and service delivery.

    Your excellent communication skills will be essential to your success in your ability to work as part of the team and develop effective working relationships.

    You will have the ability to work in partnership with other colleagues across the Council and Health, Providers, residents and other stakeholders to re-design services and ensure that outcomes are achieved. The post holder will be required to write and present detailed and well-reasoned reports and business cases for the Adult Social Care Departmental Management Team and other senior boards.

It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre
    in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
    Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
