Full Job Description

Serco Environmental services are recruiting for a Cleaning Supervisor to join the team based in Haywards Heath, West Sussex. This position is an essential role to ensure the safe, professional, and efficient delivery of operational services inclusive of full management responsibility of an operational team within a dedicated service line within Environmental Services, which is a demanding commercial environment.

Our Cleaning Supervisor role will oversee and manage the day-to-day operational service delivery of tasks in line with organisational standards and best practice, including frontline supervision and leadership of contract staff throughout the employee life cycle. The focus of the role is on the deployment, utilisation, and motivation of colleagues to ensure the effective management, co-ordination, and delivery of tasks, and to ensure service standards, productivity and quality parameters are achieved whilst ensuring that health and safety and environmental standards are maintained.,

  • Operational duties of supervising and co-ordinating works as required and the monitoring of standards of works, dealing with any issues as they arise.

  • To be aware of the commercial and financial expectations, pro-actively managing resources to meet and exceed the requirements

  • To be responsible for the recruitment, induction, supervision, management, and leadership of employees ensuring that resources are available and utilised effectively

  • Undertake regular performance management of employees resolving any issues which arise in a timely manner and in accordance with relevant policies and procedures

  • Manage the training and development requirements of employees

  • Assist with coordination of internal and external training courses.

  • To cascade best operating practice, e.g., H&S, systems, utilisation of machinery etc, to employees, ensuring that relevant systems are put in place to achieve success

  • Lead and develop employee engagement and communications with key internal stakeholders

  • Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are met, including the wearing pf PPE and the adherence of safe working practices

  • Ensure that policies and procedures are compliant and are upheld.

  • Distribute service announcements, initiatives, safety bulletins and communications to the wider team

  • Responsible for monitoring the daily inspection and reporting procedure for plant and vehicles

    Experience of managing a team

  • Hold a management qualification (Preferable)

  • Working knowledge within Waste, Street Cleansing, Grounds Maintenance, or equivalent relevant environment (Preferable)

  • Experience of using IT applications (MS Office and Industry Related Systems)

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritising and managing workloads

  • Willingness to undertake further training

  • Driving licence

  • Experience in managing manual and/or field-based workforce.

  • Working knowledge and/or experience in employment and H & S legislation

  • Financial/Commercial awareness


  • Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of logistics /route optimisation

  • Undertake ad hoc projects and assignments as and when necessary and to support personal development as agreed.

  • Recruitment and induction of staff for service

  • Lead and develop employee engagement and communication

  • HGV Licence Holder
