Full Job Description

  • Conduct research on the technology, policy and economic factors that will drive industry decarbonization

  • Perform quantitative analysis, market sizing, policy/regulatory research and forecasting

  • Focus on topics including: tracking and assessing the impact of government policies, regulations, subsidies and carbon markets on the economics of net-zero technologies, determining the competitiveness of various net-zero pathways, identifying promising early-stage technologies, tracking company strategy and activities, business models and project pipeline

  • Gather and organize data sets pertaining to these topics

  • Publish written research on the above topics

  • Speak with industry figures and BloombergNEF clients to gather information and opinions

  • Address client questions in a timely manner and present the team's research to clients, prospective clients and at external conferences

    We are seeking a highly motivated, talented individual to join our Sustainable Materials analyst team to undertake research and analysis on the decarbonization of heavy industry.


  • You're someone with a keen interest in the decarbonization of hard-to-abate emissions in industries such as steel, cement, aluminum and petchems and the net-zero transition in these sectors. You develop original opinions through critical examination, and you enjoy communicating these in both writing and speech. Your quantitative skills are very strong, you are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good eye for detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.,
  • Demonstrate an interest in, and enthusiasm for, technologies and pathways to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors

  • Have a high level of curiosity and excellent critical thinking to analyze how companies and governments can navigate the net-zero transition

  • Have strong quantitative skills, working with Microsoft Excel and other modelling tools to build cost models and capacity forecasts

  • Have fluent English and good communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations)

  • Work closely with other teams at BloombergNEF, including our Energy Transition, Policy, Hydrogen, Carbon Markets, Natural Gas and Energy Economics sector teams

  • Act as a self-starter, have a high work-rate and have the ability to work on parallel tasks with attention to detail

  • Derive information from public sources and in-person / telephone interviews

  • Have excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Have a Master's degree in sciences or engineering

  • Have at least two years of relevant experience in related sectors such as materials, chemicals or energy
