Expressions of Interest are invited in the role of Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise & Innovation). EoIs should be no longer than two side of A4 and should set out your experience relevant to the Role Descriptor and how you meet the Person Specification for the role. Purpose of Role
The role will provide cross-institutional leadership to support the Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Enterprise & Business Development) in delivering Vision 2030 objectives for Research, Enterprise & Innovation and Our Impact, and in delivering the outcomes and targets detailed in the Research, Enterprise & Innovation Outcomes Strategy.
Role Descriptor

  • Support the development and implementation of institutional strategy and advice to:

  • + build research capacity by increasing the number of Research Active Staff with Significant Responsibility for Independent Research (SRIR)
    + increase the quality of research outputs, focusing particularly on 'world-leading' research.
    + increase the significance and reach of research impact, focusing particularly on 'world-leading' impact
    + increase the vibrancy of institutional research environment and culture.
    + Increase income from research grants and contracts, particularly from Research Councils and Charities that demonstrably support world-leading outputs and impact.
    + increase income from all areas covered by the Higher Education Business and Community Interaction (HEBCI) survey
    + increase contracted knowledge exchange activity and CPD with business and the public & third sector
    + increase entrepreneurship and enterprise among staff and students
    + increase local and regional public, community and civic engagement

  • Provide leadership, support and advice to:

  • + Heads of School
    + Faculty Research Directors
    + Director of Research Development and staff in the Department of Research Development
    + Director of Enterprise & Engagement and staff in the Department of Enterprise & Engagement
    + REF Unit of Assessment Leads

  • Contribute to resource allocation plans to support the delivery of the Research, Enterprise and Innovation Outcomes Strategy


  • Person Specification
  • Hold professorial title

  • Senior leadership and management in a role relevant to the delivery of research, enterprise and innovation outcomes

  • Research, enterprise and innovation leadership and management of both established and emerging subjects and activities

  • Line management of academic staff with Significant Responsibility for Independent Research (SRIR) and Enterprise Fellows

  • Involvement in approval processes for (a) allocating SRIR and Enterprise Fellowship status; (b) external bid development

  • Development of REF submissions across multiple UoAs
