Full Job Description

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a driven, self-motivated individual who has high aspirations to work within the Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OGN) Care Group.

This is an ideal opportunity for either an experienced assistant service manager or someone looking to take the next step in their operational career. This is an excellent time to join Jessop Wing as significant improvements have already been seen, as reflected in our CQC inspection for maternity services.

Supported by an ethos of compassionate leadership and effective team working, you will be responsible for providing senior leadership within the directorate to ensure the smooth operational delivery of obstetric and neonatal services through effective planning, monitoring, escalation and problem solving. You will demonstrate effective judgement and independent decision making.

The post holder will provide primary management to Service Co-ordinators within the Obstetric and Neonatology services as well as secondary management and oversight of all other administrative and clerical staff employed within the Obstetric and Neonatology Administration Team.,

  • Working in consultation with the Operations Director, Deputy Operations Director and Service Manager, establish and review annually the capacity required to meet the contract target.

  • Highlight any shortfalls in capacity, to the Service Manager, and oversee the full utilisation of all available capacity to ensure the contract target is met.

  • Profile the theatre capacity for the year ahead and ensure all profiled lists are staffed from a directorate perspective, negotiating changes to planned consultant activity as and when required so the directorate performance remains on or above profile.

  • Ensure staff are sufficiently trained and managed so their practice reflects the Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Develop and maintain a weekly report to track our performance against the delivery of activity against the required standards so future capacity challenges can be identified early, enabling more effective forward planning of services.

  • Act as a first line of support to the Service Co-ordinators for Obstetrics and Neonatology with recruitment of new staff including the design of job descriptions and person specifications, the creation of attractive adverts, short listing, and the design of effective selection processes to select the best staff available.

  • Maintain weekly visibility with each of your teams by visiting them and understanding first hand their daily challenges.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.

  • We provide a full range of local hospital and community services for people in Sheffield, as well as specialist care for patients from further afield.
