Full Job Description

The Apprentice Fabricator role involves the fabrication, construction and repair of structures. This is achieved by working from engineering drawings, data and documentation. It requires knowledge and expertise in the use of machine and hand tools involved in preparing and cutting materials, this can include:

· Hot working processes such as welding, thermal cutting and grinding.

· A variety of measuring equipment, diagnostic techniques and processes are used to ensure individual components and assemblies meet the required specification.

· The Fabricator must comply with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements and will be expected to work both individually and as part of a team.

· They will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work they undertake.

They will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas to improve business processes., Communication skills, Attention to detail, Organisation skills, Problem solving skills, Number skills, Logical, Team working, Initiative, Non judgemental, Patience, Physical fitness, Punctual and positive attitude, GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4+) Essential
GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5+) Essential

All Apprentices will complete a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based 'off-the-job' training at SETA's Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.

Apprentices will also complete a knowledge qualification (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years.

After your initial training at SETA, you will remain with SMS to further develop your skills ultimately leading to your End Point Assessment.

To achieve full certification, SETA will make regular visits during the Apprentices time in the workplace to ensure they are developing all the required skills within the Standard, including the specified behaviours and checking your theory knowledge via professional discussions.

All training culminates in your EPA, these final tests are administered by an independent assessment organisation and take place in the last three months of the apprenticeship., The SMS Group are a multi-discipline marine engineering services provider that supports the marine industry with ship repair and marine/civil engineering activities including welding and fabrication, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic engineering services and outfit works.
