Full Job Description

Job Description Medical Receptionist 1. Answering the telephone, within the standard 5 rings (wherever possible), dealing with queries and giving information appropriately and courteously to all callers/visitors/patients. 2. Making appointments accurately, ensuring that the correct person with the correct address and correct date of birth is given an appointment at the correct time on the correct day and given the correct information and that the appointment is with the most appropriate member of the team. 3. Deal with requests for visits by following the practice protocol relating to who should deal with the requests, recording information accurately, producing the necessary documents (summaries, etc) required. 4. Using the computer in accordance with the suppliers instructions. 5. Using office machinery according to the manufacturers instructions. 6. Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions and issue repeat prescriptions when appropriate. Deal with requests for non-repeat medication
according to the practice protocol. 7. Liaise with other PHCT members as necessary. 8. Attend PHCT meetings as required. 9. Take payment for forms/certificates requested by patients. 10. Take messages and ensure accurate information is passed to the appropriate person by their preferred method. 11. Ensure deliveries are signed for by the appropriate person. 12. Follow the practice protocol for dealing with incoming mail. . 13. Ensure that all urgent correspondence is dealt with promptly and communicated to the appropriate team members. 14. Ordering of DOH stationery. 15. Liaise with other staff over the timing of lunch breaks and annual leave, ensuring that at all times there are adequate staff to ensure the smooth running of the practice 16. Contribute to the smooth running of the practice by assisting other support staff with their work during periods of peak demand, thus optimising output.
