Full Job Description

Working closely with the respective Module Leaders, Year Leads and Programme Directors, the Academic Manager is responsible for ensuring the delivery of all programmes on a campus using appropriate teaching and learning and assessment methods, effecting any necessary modifications and communicating information to students and academic staff. Responsible for the management of the team of Academics, they ensure the effective planning, management and delivery of the programme, adhering to specified monitoring and evaluation procedures. You will be versatile and provide academic management and support on all Programmes taught at the campus where you will be based, with the key role of planning, managing and reviewing campus specific requirements and supporting all teaching staff on the respective campus. Academic Managers are required to ensure student representatives are allocated to the programme board, and that all students have access to a personal tutor. Academic Managers should have
good communication with colleagues across the university and collaborative partners (if applicable), and with external bodies and national organisations.

Roles & Responsibilities

Preparation

Ø Ensure that all aspects of the programme comply with the Academic Regulations for Taught Programmes

Ø Ensure that relevant module and programme specifications are maintained

Ø Identify campus specific staffing needs and work with Programme Directors to allocate staff to modules on the programme

Ø Contributing to the development and delivery of transparent campus operational plans to be shared and owned by the academic directorate.

Ø Establish and communicate clear standards and expectations to academic staff.

Ø Work with Programme Directors to support production of relevant Programme Handbooks in electronic format, in line with the requirements of the University / Awarding Body

Ø Liaise with administrative staff over the provision of information needed to feed into central timetabling, and check that workable timetables are produced and distributed to staff and students as needed

Ø Liaise with administrative staff to ensure the programmes are appropriately administered

Ø Engage in recruitment/marketing activities in relation to the programme in conjunction with appropriate colleagues

Delivery

Ø Plan, prepare, teach/deliver modules and support student's learning on a range of programmes and related subject areas[1]

Ø Ensure the policies and procedures of the University are implemented in the delivery of the programme

Ø In liaison with the Programme Directors, to provide the academic staff resources and guidance to contribute to the development and delivery of courses

Ø Facilitate student registration on the programme in conjunction with appropriate administrative staff (at regular start points and for late-registering students)

Ø Co-ordinate and participate in the student induction process, liaising where appropriate with relevant colleagues and support services

Ø Contribute to Programme review boards/programme team meetings and report on key programme issues to relevant colleagues

Ø Contribute to the staff-student committee and report on key issues to relevant colleagues

Ø Lead and foster communication and coordination between module leaders and the lecturers in the campuses where modules are taught.

Ø Assure that module leaders located on campus perform their coordination activities at module level timely and efficiently

Ø Respond to student queries relevant to the programme where these have not been satisfactorily resolved elsewhere, and ensure the general orientation of students through the programmes

Ø Monitor student participation on all programmes delivered on campus, working with relevant colleagues as appropriate

Ø Ensure that the requirements of students with Student Support Plans are met

Ø Where a member of staff is unavailable for teaching, liaise with module leads/HR and other relevant colleagues regarding suitable cover

Ø Anticipate, record, communicate and manage risks relevant to the management of the academic staff on campus.

Ø Ensure student representatives have been selected for their role and trained by the Student Services within the designated time frame

Ø Maintain positive, regular communication with student representatives, responding to issues promptly

Quality Assurance

Ø Contribute to the production of Annual Programme Monitoring and Enhancement reports in conjunction with the programme team

Ø Participate and contribute to Periodic Programme Reviews in line with Institutional procedure

Ø To monitor compliance with, and completion of key quality and administrative processes self-evaluation, inspection, audit, approval, monitoring and review, preparing documentation and writing reports as appropriate

Ø Monitor student progress, achievement and retention on all programmes

Ø Monitor suitability and availability of learning resources including library resources

Ø Contribute to the review of the currency and relevance of the programme curriculum

Ø Ensure engagement with Library and colleagues on programme developments and reviews

Ø Work with Programme Directors and relevant academic staff to ensure that the College Equality and Diversity statement is fully integrated into the delivery of all programmes on campus

Ø Raise any significant issues or concerns regarding the programme, staff or students with the Vice-Principal / Head of Higher Education / Academic Lead

Other Responsibilities

Ø To agree objectives and targets with relevant Programme Directors in accordance with College priorities and participate in the staff appraisal process.

Ø To represent the College, delegating where appropriate, at internal and external events and meetings as necessary

Ø To participate in professional/academic associations and develop and participate in external networks.

Ø To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non-discriminatory practices

Ø To adopt a client-centred approach and to deal promptly and considerately with members of the public, school partners, staff and students

Ø To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required, including additional administrative duties appropriate to the role

Ø Where programmes have or are seeking professional body accreditation, the programme leader is responsible, in conjunction with appropriate academic and administrative staff, to act as a representative of the College with the professional body to ensure the programme meets the needs of the approval panel.

Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in a similar role
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team

- Knowledge of industry best practices and trends

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, but not required
