Full Job Description

The Main duties of the role is to provide medical cover for any patient admitted under the care of Trauma & Orthopaedics, as directed by the Consultants team in charge of care. This duty happens during all shifts on the roster from on call to ward based cover. Treatment plan and actions are to be provided alongside the Registrar, FY1 Dr and the teams Surgical care practitioners. The junior doctor accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate Consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior.

It has been agreed between the professions and the Department that while juniors accept that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this subsection are exceptional and in particular that juniors should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis. Teaching is informal within the Department. Facilities for study leave are in line with current guidelines and there are postgraduate medical education courses available. The post is not recognised for training by the Deanery.

A half-day meeting is held once a month, on a Friday afternoon with case presentation, morbidity and mortality meetings and audit presentation. Post holders are actively encouraged to be involved in research projects and publication and will be expected to complete audit projects.
