Full Job Description

King Ecgbert School is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and talented Teacher of Drama. This role can be 0.6FTE or 0.8FTE (depending on candidate preference) to cover a period of maternity leave. The role will commence September 2024., We are seeking an outstanding drama teacher, who is highly skilled and wholeheartedly committed to delivering the highest quality drama lessons. We are a passionate, hardworking and enthusiastic department that teaches students from Year 7 through to Year 13. Drama is a highly valued subject within the school; the Senior Team are very supportive of the creative arts. Even better still, our students love their Drama lessons and therefore, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a department where students are eager to learn, their behaviour is impeccable and they thrive off producing outstanding work.

The Drama department's curriculum is academically rigorous and provides adequate levels of challenge for all students as well as an unequivocal commitment to meeting their needs. The curriculum equips students with not just a strong practical skillset, but also a developed theoretical understanding. The curriculum is sequenced so that students develop key skills and understanding which is then built upon over the years. By the end of year 9, students can perform in and articulate the styles of Frantic Assembly, Steven Berkoff, Antonin Artaud, Bertolt Brecht and Konstantin Stanislavski. Additionally, the department is passionate about providing students with a culturally knowledge-rich experience; the curriculum teaches students about individuals, stories and events from around the world. We are seeking an exceptional teacher to deliver these ambitious curriculum principles.

In Year 7, students study Drama once a fortnight. In Years 8 and 9, students study Drama once a week. We have a growing cohort of students taking GCSE and A-Level Drama. Our KS4 and KS5 cohort are really special and will work exceptionally hard for you; teaching them is genuinely a pleasure. Student uptake in the subject has increased dramatically in recent years, and we need someone who can positively contribute towards this. Additionally, the department is committed to developing the transferable skills of our students to best prepare them for their future steps.

In addition to the department's commitment to delivering the highest quality curriculum, we are also committed to inspiring students with a love of drama outside the classroom. We strive to give students opportunities that ignite their passion and allow them to express themselves. We are proud to give students the chance to perform in our annual KEStival, to experience Theatre in Education performances in school, to visit the theatre and to take part in industry specialist workshops. Recent highlights were our March 2023 production of Matilda and our 2024 production of Shrek the Musical, both of which were a huge success. Both productions involved more than 90 students and students performed the shows four times to a sell out audience of 800 people!

Ambitious for learning and a team player, you will have the vision, enthusiasm, and drive to build on the strong foundations that already exist in the department. Innovative and resilient you will have an unwavering commitment to student progress. The ability to teach music to some degree would be beneficial, but not essential.

We are looking for staff who are enthusiastic and are keen to make a difference.

You'll be eager to learn and work well with others, and you'll bring the vision, enthusiasm, and determination needed to enhance the already solid department. You'll also be inventive with a strong dedication to student progress.

We are seeking candidates who are dedicated to serving a diverse community and bring with them experiences and viewpoints that will enhance our efforts.
