Full Job Description

1. To deliver face to face and online youth activities supporting children and young people with their overall wellbeing.

2. A genuine passion for working with children and young people and supporting their engagement and progression.

3. To encourage children and young people to actively participate in the decision making processes of the programme.

4. Working with children and young people to build successful and trusting relationships to achieve greater impact and improved outcomes.

5. Maintaining up to date records of work completed with children and young people in accordance with GDPR and Data Protection policies.

6. To support the station youth worker completing comprehensive risk assessments for activities and sessions, including risk assessing individuals if required to ensure the safety of others, and self.

7. Providing support to children and young people and assisting them to develop life skills.

8.To participate in regular performance reviews and be prepared to undertake training courses appropriate to your role.

9. Provide assistance supporting and delivering activities, enforcing rules, modelling positive behaviour.

10.To support the station youth worker and team members overseeing session activities including maintaining safety of equipment, cleaning facilities and equipment, operating accessing I.T systems for recording of information when required.

11. To be youth work focused, polite, professional, engaging to all individuals and colleagues, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

12.Motivate and inspire children and young people to develop their wellbeing through variety of coproduced session activities.

Quality

13. Ensure that all: -

a. Quality standards are maintained to the highest level.

b. Policies and procedures are up to date and are being adhered to.

c. Safeguarding concerns are reported in line with YMCABC Groups processes.

Partnership

14. Represent the interests of the YMCA at partnership / network meetings to promote and further develop the RAF Airplay Programme.

General

15. Participate in staff meetings, provide regular feedback as appropriate.

16. Ensure the health, safety and welfare of service users and volunteers in accordance with the YMCAs Health & Safety Policy, and conduct risk assessments as appropriate.

17. Ensure all work practice is inclusive, expressed through a wholehearted commitment to welcome those of all faiths and none.

18. Undertake any other related duties that are consistent with the job.

Experience of working with children and young people

Experience of developing session plans and facilitating/supporting delivery

Experience of dealing with complaints

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle, wellbeing for children and young people

Working with children and young people with varying needs and challenges, (e.g. Anger issues, learning disabilities, behaviour.)

Partnership working and networking with a range of agencies.

Developing engaging session plans with clear aims and objectives

Working well within a team with the ability to also take initiative., Ability and confidence to deliver sessions to children/young people and to be able to maintain commitment and involvement.

Demonstrate empathy and regard for others and respect individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.

Excellent administrative and accurate record keeping ability

Excellent interpersonal skills, which put children/young people, staff members and volunteers at ease.

Ability to apply knowledge to encourage and motivate children and young people to make positive change to their health and wellbeing.

Demonstrable time management and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise own workload

Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative.

An ability to work alongside partner agency staff.

Knowledge

Demonstrate excellent knowledge of working with children and young people

Knowledge of RAF Airplay programme and YMCA partnership

Knowledge of engagement and youth work development approaches i.e. strengths based approach, universal and early intervention, behaviour change theory., Be committed to the YMCAs Equality and Diversity Policy.

Be committed to the safeguarding of children and adults at risk of harm.

Willingness to develop within the job and undergo relevant training.

Ability to respect the Christian Ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values.

Full clean driving licence

    Background: A collaboration of YMCAs across England, Wales and Scotland are delighted to announce that RAF Benevolent Fund have awarded a 4 year contract to deliver their flagship Airplay programme. The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is the RAFs leading welfare charity. They exist to support current and former members of the RAF, their partners and dependents, whenever they need help.


  • Airplay and Ben Clubs is the RAF Benevolent Funds youth support scheme, providing youth club sessions on RAF stations and access to the digital platform Airplay Connect, developed for children living away from stations. Growing up as part of a military family has its challenges, as parents often spend long periods away from home, and children are required to move school and home frequently. Airplay aims to address these issues by providing a safe place for youngsters to spend time with their peers, with support on hand if needed.

    Remuneration: £12.37 per hour

    Job Role: The post holder will work from RAF Youth Centre hub delivering Airplay activities. You will work closely with the YMCA BCG Station Youth Worker, to achieve the programme outcomes.
