Full Job Description

  • Conduct full range of Finite Element Analysis; from model creation through results post-processing to results interpretation and formal report writing

  • Carry out assessments against design codes

  • Propose suitable design solutions

  • Checking and reviewing analysis by others, both internal and external

  • Act as intelligent customer for analysis and assessment tasks

  • Support design reviews

  • Support the substantiation and analysis manager

  • Interact with and support wider Site Engineering Function as well as other parts of the business, You will be joining an ever-expanding team with some great development opportunities both in the technical and managerial streams. Native to the team, there are opportunities to get involved in finite element analysis and simulation using the latest cutting edge tools and techniques supporting the design substantiation and safety justification of a variety of assets and facilities spanning mechanical, civil and structural, and electrical. This also involves regular interaction and joint working with the Engineering Authority, Site Specialist Engineers, Site Safety Case, as well as Boat Services and Boat Build functions delivering an exceptionally varied and diverse scope. This interaction offers plenty of development opportunities.

    Experience in conducting complex Finite Element Analyses and interpretation of results

  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry (Nuclear, Oil & Gas, etc)

  • Ability to carry out hand calculations

  • Technical report writing

  • Team player


  • Desirable:
  • Degree qualified in a STEM subject

  • Chartered engineer status and professional body membership

  • Use of ANSYS, ABAQUS and LS-DYNA

  • A robust understanding of the use, capabilities, and limitations of FEA methods

  • Use of MathCAD for hand calculations

  • Experience in linear, non-linear analysis and assessment, including seismic (response spectrum and time history analysis)
