    Introduction:

In March 2019, the UK Mod signed a $1.98Bn (£1.51Bn) deal with Boeing to purchase the E-7 Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Mk1 aircraft. The E-7 fleet will replace the current E-3D Sentry aircraft and ensure the continued delivery of the UK's Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capability. The aircraft will enter service in 2024 and will be operated from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland. Being based upon the 737, the platform offers significant savings in training and maintenance, as well as extremely high reliability.

The Wedgetail AEW Mk1 is based upon the highly successful 737-700 IGW NG aircraft, and requires a significant modification Programme to convert it into a high-end mission system capability. To continue its commitment to the United Kingdom prosperity, Boeing is undertaking the modification at a UK location by a workforce comprised of both Boeing and subcontracted engineers and maintenance technicians in a suitably approved and equipped Maintenance Repair Organisation (MRO).
