Full Job Description

To lead the Road Traffic Reporting Team in all technical, legislative and training requirements, in addition to undertaking a significant amount of Road Traffic casework across all main case types. The purpose of this role is to be the Lead Reporting Scientist who is the point of contact for all Road Traffic technical questions and advise the laboratory, reporting and management teams. In addition, the role will also include the specific responsibility of Training Champion.,

  • Road Traffic Casework (~ 70% of time) - Reporting and Peer reviewing a full range of cases.

  • Training Champion - developing training plans and material in conjunction with the other trainers and VTOX Operations Lead, delivering training (within own competency), overseeing training, mentoring and coaching of junior team members.

  • Scientific SPOC for Road Traffic Reporting - assist with key technical or interpretative decisions.

  • Working with the BUMA and VTOX Operations Lead to meet the team's strategy and goals - including identifying training needs and succession planning.

  • Working with the Science Lead on any Road Traffic Specific Legislation - making key decisions and disseminating this information to the team.

    Demonstrable experience in the delivery of Road Traffic Casework - able to report and peer review all main case types.

  • Preferable to have some experience of delivering an array of training, coaching and mentoring.

  • Full understanding of Road Traffic Legislation with demonstrable court experience

  • Knowledge of the FSR code, UKAS and Lab 51

  • Awareness of Toxicology marketplace

  • Good general business awareness - particularly in relation to EFS and Toxicology

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with customers and colleagues both verbal and written.

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, pressured environment and to strict deadlines.

  • Respond effectively to unexpected additional workload and ability to adopt a flexible approach to the varied demands of the job and working hours.

  • Sufficient laboratory experience to identify and understand the issues likely to arise in the types of cases processed, in both scientific and case management terms.

  • Good understanding of the principle behind the analytical techniques used for Road Traffic cases.

  • Good general business awareness and solid understanding of the various requirements of customers.

  • Science based degree.

  • Fully trained and competent in analysis of standard Toxicology sample types, e.g. blood, urine, whether practical or theoretical.

  • Fully trained and competent in analysis/interpretation of results containing common and less common drug types, whether practical or theoretical.

  • Previous experience of working in a busy laboratory environment.


  • Additional Information

    Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance will be required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. This role may in addition require random alcohol/drug screening.
