Full Job Description

To undertake materials testing of products and raw materials in a laboratory environment.

To support the business with visits to customer sites to investigate technical or quality queries or failures and assist with the investigation of customer complaints.

Working closely with the quality, commercial and operations teams, you will support, advise and provide technical guidance to ensure the company adheres to minimum legal and product standard requirements at optimum cost.

You may be involved in product development which may require that you undertake laboratory product trials, product training and demonstrations - both onsite and off-site.,

  • Comply with and promote a strong Health & Safety culture in line with the companies' safety rules and H&S legislation.


  • Ensure company van and test equipment provided to carry out technician duties remains in a safe and legal condition with a good standard of housekeeping.


  • Work within the area laboratory and/or any satellite laboratories in a safe manner; maintain the premises in clean and tidy condition at all times


  • Ensure that testing equipment is maintained and calibrated in accordance with the requirements of the company quality system and associated testing standards.


  • Sampling and testing of incoming raw materials and all products at the frequency identified in the standard procedures.


  • Ensure the maintenance of good quality records of all test results, observations and remarks


  • Develop an understanding of internal quality management procedures and BSI accreditations


  • Interact with quality control systems that monitor the conformity of all products manufactured


  • - Develop a good understanding of concrete product standards EN 206 / BS EN 8500 (1 & 2)

    - Develop a good understanding of mortar product standard BS EN 998-2

    - Monitor and check all product performance

    - Report all instances of failure to obtain the required sampling and test rates.

  • Assist in troubleshooting, root cause analysis to identify areas of conformity improvement.


  • Monitor effectiveness of any corrective action actions taken


  • Provide all test and report data at the times and frequencies required by the line manager Provide support to Operations staff in relation to product quality.


  • Ensure the maintenance of good quality records of all test results, observations and remarks


  • Provide training and verification audits of plant staff concrete cube preparation where required


  • Provide training and support to customers who are installing our range of products

    This role is ideally suited to a mature school/college leaver looking to commence a technical career in the construction materials industry or a person with experience of working with building products who wishes to develop into a technical role.
