Full Job Description

  • Ensure supported platforms and associated services are reliable and available 24/7/365 through performance monitoring, optimisation and tuning

  • Develop subject matter expertise for general configurations, implementations and operational requirements.

  • Ensure platforms and services comply with regulatory and legal requirements like GDPR and NIS.

  • Ensure platforms and services meet internal standards for licensing, build, maintenance and security configuration

  • Contribute metric and status information of services towards a reporting dashboard to capture operational KPIs such as patching status, capacity and utilisation

  • Proactive day to day monitoring and housekeeping tasks, day to day business as usual support

  • Provide technical support for all incidents on supported platforms, including diagnosis, manage 3rd party support contact and remediation

  • Participate in out-of-hours incident and change support rota for supported platforms.

  • Create, review and update technical documentation and assure compliance with United Utilities documentation standards.

  • Identify and initiate service improvements and efficiencies using automation.

  • Review and fulfil requests for ad-hoc deployment and configuration changes.

    To be successful in this role you'll need ITIL 3+ Foundation Qualification or demonstrate equivalent knowledge. You'll also need:

  • Good understanding and knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, infrastructure software and associated management, diagnostic and monitoring capabilities

  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft System Center and associated technologies with experience of supporting one of SCOM, SCORCH, Intune or SCCM Knowledge and understanding of orchestration and automation platforms and associated technologies.

  • Experience with a scripting language such as PowerShell, Bash or Python.

  • Understanding of TLS/SSL/PKI concepts.

  • Demonstrate methodical and analytical approach in troubleshooting, problem solving with a sense of ownership.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively as circumstances demand.

  • Technical and implementation experience of security protocols and certificates.

  • Experience of working in a Linux command line environment.

  • Good understanding of networking technologies and protocols and addressing.

  • Experience of text search technologies and capabilities, e.g. Elasticsearch and of data flow managers (Apache Nifi, Talend, Airflow).

  • Knowledge of source code repository technologies, like MS TFS, Subversion, Git, etc and of a scripting language, for example Powershell, Bash, Python

  • Experience of dashboard technologies like Squared up, Kibana or Grafana and with data interchange languages like XML, JSON and YAML.

  • Experience of capacity planning and utilisation reporting and of support or deployment activities in Cloud environments (Azure, AWS etc)

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current and emerging industry trends, software platform and tools capabilities (both on-premises and cloud based).
