Full Job Description

To work with our existing college teams as they prepare for and deliver services for internal and commercial events. The role is practical and site based in the College. Our teams work literally around the clock 7 days a week, but we expect working times for this role to be between 7am and 9pm, usually 5 days out of 7, working with different teams in different areas of the college on a daily basis.
Relationships:
Responsible to: Seasonal Team Manager as Line Manager, Department Heads when working in their department
Liaison with: Department heads, supervisors and staff in our Catering, Conference, Housekeeping and Lodge team, other members of colleges staff, conference and summer school clients, other visitors to college and students.

Main Tasks

  • Setting up and serving meals and other catering events

  • Working in our main kitchens

  • Preparing and cleaning bedrooms and assisting with linen and other consumables management and transportation

  • Site logistics, moving equipment and furniture as use of the college changes through the summer

  • Setting Conference Rooms up with tables and chairs and AV equipment such as big screens, projectors and laptops

  • Supporting customers with meeting and technical set ups, ensuring equipment is working and customers are familiar with how to use it

  • Showing guests around the site, meeting on arrival etc

  • Event and team administration to assist planning and delivery of booked services

  • Assisting the maintenance team with routine tasks

  • Reduce the College's direct environmental and social impact and improve the sustainability of our operation


  • The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the Colleges organisation and the overall objectives of Lady Margaret Hall.

    The post-holder will be a motivated self-starter who takes pride in the quality of their work. A willingness to work hard, sometimes under time pressure is essential. The successful candidate will want to be part of a team, and care about the customer experience provided by the team as a whole. The ability to cope with a busy working environment and respond positively and flexibly to changing work needs is essential.

  • Skills and knowledge
    Essential:
  • Good English literacy and verbal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.

  • Physical fitness for moving furniture around the site. Able to set up Conference Rooms from concept to completion.


  • Previous experience
    Desirable:
  • Experience of working with a wide range of people in a busy customer-facing, service-orientated environment, ideally with an events focus.


  • Qualifications
    Essential:
  • Educated to GCSE level standard or equivalent.

  • Eligible to live and work in the UK.

    Fixed term post between June and September 2024.

  • Hours of work are 30 per week, working 5 days out of 7 including weekends and some early morning and late evening work.

  • The hourly rate is £12.49 per hour.

  • Uniform is provided.

  • All staff are entitled to a complimentary meal for each shift work.

  • Generous paid annual leave allowance of 36 days per annum (FTE).
