Our Environment Group is made up of highly qualified individuals with extensive experience in the Geotechnics, Contaminated Land, Ecology, Heritage, Flood Risk, Air Quality and Acoustic disciplines. The Environment Group works either as part of multi-disciplinary BWB project teams or independently for a range of key clients. We provide timely and cost-effective ground consultancy services to the development and property sector on projects of any type or size.

What you'll be doing

The role is predominantly office based and will involve working as a Principal Geo-Environmental Consultant within the Service, responsible for all the management, both financial and technical input, into Phase I and Phase II geo-environmental assessments, ground investigations, detailed quantitative risk assessment and remediation activities, including provision of proposals, project planning, management of BWB resources (office or site based) and sub-contractors, completion of appropriate scheduling of laboratory testing, data assessment and modelling, reporting and financial performance.

You will be given the responsibility for bidding for and successful delivery of both large complex projects as well as small specialist ones. You will manage a small team of consultants and lead project teams, and will be highly organised and technically independent, capable of providing clear and commercial advice on geo-environmental considerations for development on brownfield land. The role will be focused on servicing both internal and external clients but will also have direct business development targets.

The ideal candidate will be willing to accept the challenges for what they are and thrive within a growing and diverse engineering environment.

What you'll bring

Ideally, they will be chartered, or progressing towards chartership within a relevant professional institution.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate good experience and working knowledge of the following areas of work:

  • Experience, knowledge and demonstrable capability in the areas of technical expertise essential to the delivery of Contaminated Land projects, including experience of managing and supervising geo-environmental investigations, soil and rock logging, soil and groundwater sampling and in-situ testing.

  • Experience of advising on materials management and preparing Materials management Plans and associated documents.

  • Ideally experience of undertaking soil, gas and groundwater detailed quantitative risk assessments using, but not limited to the EA P20 model, COSIM and CLEA framework.

  • Experience of supervising and validating a variety of remediation projects.

  • Competency with the MS Office suite of programs and strong communication skills are a must.

  • Excellent communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.

  • Proactive approach with drive, positivity and enthusiasm and a strong desire to succeed.

  • Ability to prioritise team workloads and manage resources to ensure efficient delivery of projects.

  • Ability to deliver projects on time and within budget with a strong focus on client care is essential, as is a willingness to travel. A full driving license is essential.

  • A basic understanding of geotechnical considerations and developing awareness of how such risks and liabilities will impact upon land ownership and development would be an advantage.

  • Ability to work within a team on multi-disciplinary schemes.
