Come work for an outstanding specialist mental health medicine optimisation team, who are focused to empower patients in their medicines decision. We offer a clinical facing patient role across our specialist inpatient wards throughout Devon, the post holder will focus on delivering this service across North Devon based wards. We offer and support outstanding opportunities to further develop your clinical skills as a pharmacy technician and share best practise outside the organisation. There will be an opportunity to develop your role further by undertaking the PWDS clinical prioritisation course. We encourage our team members to develop the service for a bespoke patient centred care. We offer flexible working and no weekend work/bank holiday working. Come and join a dedicated and friendly team and help us achieve our next 5 year strategy., Main duties as a DPT medicine optimisation pharmacy technician within the Exeter based team will include:

Medicines reconciliation in line with NICE guidance and local SOPs

Manage the ordering, monitoring, storage and destruction of stock and named patient medication

Carry out drug chart rewrite process to reduce the risk of transcription errors

Provide regular face to face patient counselling

Assess appropriateness of complex specialist treatment and liaise with nursing staff, pharmacy and medical staff

Liaise with pharmacies to ensure timely and accurate supply of medication

Regularly check medication charts to inform performance indicators and ensure charts meet service standard

Quarterly CD audits & storage audits with the ward

Quarterly CD audits & storage audits with Community Mental Health Teams, Please refer to the job description attached to this advert which will provide further information on this role.

  • NVQ level 3 and BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

  • SWMIT/PWDS Accredited Medicine Optimisation Training programme levels: Foundation Intermediate, Experience of working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team / environment.

  • Ability to supervise activities of pharmacy technicians and assistants.

  • Managing change in a complex environment and evidence of having successfully implemented change.

  • The ability to work under pressure, to deadlines where there are conflicting priorities., Up-to-date knowledge of medicines

  • Broad understanding of national policies and issues impacting on medicines optimisation services.

  • Willingness to obtain further qualifications in mental health or pharmacy practice if not already held as identified through the post holders personal development plan.

  • Excellent, communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation skills for a wide variety of audiences.

  • Critical appraisal and analytical skills, with an understanding of evidence based medicine.

  • The ability to deal with complex situations and bring to a satisfactory resolution.

  • High-level time management skills.

  • The ability to plan and organise broad range of complex activities, formulate strategic/ long-term plans involving uncertainty.

  • Must be independently mobile across the Trust. This post is primarily based in and around Exeter, Devon although some infrequent travel to services in East & Mid Devon may be required.
