Full Job Description

The First Team Strength and Conditioning Coach will be responsible for ensuring that the highest standards are maintained at all times with the Sports Science and Strength & Conditioning support provided to all players at Forest Green Rovers FC. This will involve gym and pitch based sessions, and assisting the Head of Sports Science in the physical preparation of the first team squad.

Please note, this role involves evening and weekend work, extensive traveling in the UK and requires flexible working hours in line with the first team training schedule.,

  • Play an active role in the daily management of the Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning programme for all first team players at Forest Green Rovers.

  • Work closely with the Head of Sports Science to ensure consistent standards are upheld with the delivery of all pitch based and gym based physical preparation, and conditioning sessions.

  • Ensure all Sports Science and Strength and Conditioning services are consistently operating at best-practice standards.

  • Manage and maintain the gym space at the Training Ground, setting professional standards with regards to safe and effective use of strength and conditioning equipment.

  • Plan and deliver on-field and off-field, individual and group strength and conditioning sessions to all first team players supported by principles of athletic development, and based upon performance testing results.

  • Work with the Head of Sports Science on the development of individual player (physical) development plans.

  • Keep up-to-date and accurate records of strength and conditioning sessions and individual player programmes.

  • Develop and play an active role in the delivery of gym based and pitch based recovery strategies.

  • Contribute to off-season planning and physical development programs for players.

  • To assist in the collection, analysis, reporting and management of sports science and strength and conditioning data.

  • Oversee physical performance testing of players at regular intervals throughout the season.

  • Work closely with the Medical department to enhance and develop injury prevention strategies.

  • To assist the Medical Department as required in the delivery of on-pitch and gym-based functional rehabilitation sessions, and return to play protocols.

  • Support the Head of Sports Science with the delivery of sports science provision on match days.

  • Assist with the delivery of nutritional support under the guidance of the Head of Sports Science.

    An undergraduate degree in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning or relevant subject area.

  • A minimum of two years' experience working in Sports Science and/or Strength and Conditioning support in professional sport.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with players, coaches and other staff members in a professional manner.

  • High level of enthusiasm for working in professional football and a proactive approach to tasks and duties.

  • Ability to work in a high pressurised environment with a flexible approach to working hours and job role.

  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.

  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within high-level sport.

  • Extensive knowledge of physical training principles and an understanding of the rehabilitation process.

  • Extensive experience in delivering on-field and off-field conditioning/athletic development/return to play sessions to high-level athletes.

  • Experience using software applications and equipment including athlete management software GPS systems and VALD technology.


  • Desirable:
  • A postgraduate degree in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning or relevant subject area.

  • Recent experience working in professional football.

  • Experience using data visualisation software such as Tableau and Power BI.

  • Relevant professional body accreditations (UKSCA, BASES, ISAK).
