We here at BikePark Wales take our duty of care very seriously and as part of our continual development and quest to provide excellent customer service we are hiring a First Aid Manger. The First Aid Manager will lead our fantastic team of responders to be the first on the scene of an accident to provide first response care and to assist the emergency services.

Due to the site, injuries are often sustained in hard-to-reach places on the mountain, as such, suitable candidates will have multiple resources available to them to reach the casualty in the fastest way possible. From quad bikes to 4x4 off road vehicles and even an electric trials bike we will ensure you have what you need.

Having a love for the outdoors, this is a physically demanding position. An appreciation for the elements all year round will be essential for this role, whilst we get our fair share of sunny days, being prepared for what winter months can bring is key.

In addition to attending incidents on site the First Aid Manager will be responsible for ensuring and managing all follow up processes have been completed. Keeping an organised audit trail is a crucial part of the role. The right candidate will also assist the trail crew with monthly trail inspections and the necessary paperwork to complete these, as such an understanding of and interest in mountain biking is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities to include:

  • Leading a team of first responders, managing on all HR related matters

  • Creating and managing the rotas, ideally 1 month in advance to support the bank team members

  • Offering First Aid treatment to customers of BPW who have sustained an injury whilst riding, and to BPW staff members who may have suffered an injury whilst at work. This will involve assisting those injured on the hill who are unable to make their own way down to the centre

  • Act as a customer service champion for your department, setting the standards of our Service policy, leading and supervising the First responder team in delivering exceptional service to all our visitors, in the day-to-day operation

  • Ensuring the completion of the First Aid recording procedures for every injured person, and completing a follow up call to enquire how their recovery is proceeding

  • Work with the CAO in achieving the department KPIs

  • Ordering and storing First Aid Equipment, including producing and maintaining an inventory system to monitor stock levels

  • Creating monthly reports for the Exec and Board. Ensuring all H&S audits and checklists are completed

  • Ensuring all First Aiders at BPW hold current and relevant qualifications, organising courses in a timely manner to ensure qualifications do not expire

  • Working with the Trail Crew Manager to assist with Trail Inspections

  • Working within established BPW H&S guidelines as well as its relevant partners (i.e. NRW)

    You should have a comprehensive understanding of emergency First Aid, holding current advanced Aid qualifications, FREC 3 or above as a minimum

  • Exceptional personal standards and understanding of customer service

  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in leadership, at assistant manager level, is essential for this role

  • Outstanding organisation and planning skills and a good eye for detail.

  • A calm and resilient manner is essential for this role

  • Excellent people skills with the ability to build strong relationships, internally and externally across all teams, effective communication skills both verbal and written

  • A hard working and adaptable manner, with a solid common-sense approach

  • A knowledge of health and safety procedures

  • Active approach to improve standards across the site

  • Good IT skills (Microsoft office package)

  • Full, clean UK driving license


  • Desirable skills:
  • Ability to communicate in the Welsh language

  • A keen interest in MTB and BikePark Wales

  • Enhanced DBS certificate

  • Valid ATV/QUAD certificate

  • DBS certified

  • Being an intermediate level or above biker and or motorbike rider is desirable but not essential. Training available.

    BikePark Wales is the UK's number one mountain bike facility located at Merthyr Tydfil on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park just 25 minutes north of central Cardiff. The Park is now an internationally recognised destination and a mecca for mountain bikers, descending on Mynydd Gethin, a 491-metre summit. BikePark Wales is a young, successful business which is growing fast. The current offering includes over 40 world class mountain bike trails, a vehicular uplift service, café, bike shop, bike hire, coaching and events but an ambitious development plan is now underway to both improve the existing services and add new products and facilities to the existing site.
