Full Job Description

  • Work in partnership with teachers, subject leads and external agencies such as EPS to meet the needs of individual students., Establish excellent learning relationships with pupils with an awareness of their individual needs.

  • Contribute to and create learning support plans for children with literacy needs.

  • Foster effective learning habits including pride in presentation, resilience, independence, and time management.

  • Promote good attendance and punctuality for all pupils.

  • Support pupils in developing their self-esteem and emotional literacy.

  • Contribute to reviews of EHCPs and termly pupil support plans.

  • Provide feedback to pupils and their parents in relation to progress and achievement.

  • Act as a positive role model, setting the highest standards and expectations

    We are looking for a qualified teaching assistant who is looking to extend their own knowledge and gain their HLTA certificate., Have experience of working with children and young people with literacy needs.

  • Have literacy/dyslexia specific qualifications e.g. Levels 2+ dyslexia support award or equivalent.

  • Be able to plan and deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to enable children to meet literacy outcomes, measuring progress and providing feedback to colleagues as required.

  • Be able to support whole-school literacy provision.

  • Have the ability to demonstrate a good level of oral and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

  • Have ambition and drive to excel our school on its journey to outstanding.

  • Have the skills to raise aspiration and achievement for our pupils.

  • Be flexible in assisting in other areas, such as interventions, PPA and covering absence.

  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils., We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is self-motivated, and has a passion for supporting teaching and learning to will work as the Dyslexia support HLTA within Westbourne Academy, working with multi-agency services to raise standards of literacy throughout the school.

  • Qualifications Required:

  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) essential

  • Teaching Assistant qualification is essential


  • Experience Required:

  • Some experience working with children and young people with literacy needs is preferred
