Full Job Description

As a result of growing demands for our award-winning range of combustion engines and realising our goal "constructing our road to zero". We are seeking a Design Engineer. The role will suit an individual looking for an opportunity to develop their career within a fast-paced organisation at the cutting edge of engine design and development.

About your role

You will be part of a Team supporting ICE platforms (including Hydrogen) taking designs from concept to production, ensuring robust design techniques are used to produce world class products.

You will become an expert in CAD, (Siemens nx), with the ability to back up designs with the required technical documentation.

You will be exposed to all areas of the ICE and at different phases of its lifecycle from concept designs to current product upgrades.

Responsibilities:

Design

  • Creating, maintaining high quality CAD models and drawings to the company standards.


  • Document the design cycle of the component/system including calculations, tolerance stacks and basic analysis.


  • Work with the CAE department to fully analyse the designs and use this data to optimise the designs for performance, cost and reliability.


  • Work in a simultaneous engineering environment to support product development.


  • Support current product through continuous improvement and component development.


  • Create and maintain system design guides and relevant design Standard Operating Procedures.


  • Planning and Organisation
  • Be responsible for planning your workload and associated tasks.


  • Support programme gateway reviews with technical evidence and cost status.


  • Provide support to other design workstreams throughout the global JCB design team.


  • Research and Development
  • Keep on track of the state-of-the-art technical development within the System for which you are responsible.


  • Understand the effectiveness and importance of relevant benchmarking.


  • Create clean sheet concept designs from first principles.


  • Plan and execute POC (Proof-of-Concept) assessment either through test campaign and/or first principle analysis and simulation.

    Have a degree in an associated mechanical engineering discipline, with a sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles (showing an attention to detail, and being data driven).


  • Experience working with CAD preferably Siemens nx.


  • Experience of producing technical drawings to a high standard using GD&T where applicable.


  • In addition to a passion for engineering, a desire to be 'hands-on' with projects from concept to completion.


  • Understand and contribute to the management of the project.


  • Be able to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines.


  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels.


  • Show flexibility - the role requires travel to customer and supplier sites.


  • Be willing to contribute in a dynamic, collaborative, and cross-discipline team setting.
