Full Job Description

This is a great opportunity to join an existing team of highly trained staff responsible for the maintenance of Parks, Playing Fields, Open spaces, Cemeteries and Schools throughout the borough. It is essential for these areas to be maintained to a safe and high standard throughout the seasons., Duties will include maintenance of Bowling greens, sports pitches, landscaped areas Schools & Parks.

A Craftsman Gardener is expected to deputies for higher graded staff in the event of absence and assist with the supervision and training of apprentices, work experience employees and lower graded staff. A Craftsman Gardener will need to be flexible and willing to assist with the operation of Burial Services including grave digging if required.

Carry out work to written specifications, and subsequent completion of relevant documentation to agreed timescales, including timesheets, record of inspections and records of pesticide use.

Applicants must hold at least 1-year experience of carrying out horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks.

NVQ level 2 qualification in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent

Certificate of competence for the application of pesticides with hand-held sprayer (PA1& PA6) Mounted or trailered Boom Sprayer (PA2a if Required)

Certificate of competence for chainsaws and related operations (if required)

A full driving license is essential - minimum of category B and willingness to take further training to C1+E within 12 months.

To Drive and willing to operate a wide range of plant and machinery: Tractors, Mini Diggers, Mech Brush.

Hours of work are 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am to 4:00pm Friday.

St Helens Council will offer you an attractive salary with 185 hours annual leave (rising to 207.20 hours after 5 years' service), plus Bank Holidays.
