Full Job Description

Your experience with mammalian tissue culture and culture media preparation will make you an essential member of our technical team. You will develop and optimise animal component-free formulations for stem cell expansion and differentiation using high-throughput screenings, and optimise the preparation of customised cell culture media from powder. You'll be working alongside a brilliant group of scientists, engineers and technicians, supporting our journey towards large-scale production of cultivated fat.

At every step, you will play a huge role in shaping the future of food.

As a Cell Culture Technician, you will work within our R&D team to develop animal component-free media for expansion and differentiation of our cell lines. You will spend your time in our brand new tissue culture lab, preparing and optimising culture media to support our entire cell-line development workflow from cells to Master Cell Bank creation and manufacturing. Your understanding of the chemical properties of media components, including their impact on stem cell bioprocessing, will make you an essential member of our team. In this role, you'll develop expertise with cutting-edge equipment and analytical techniques in a lab that combines tissue culture with food science.

You should have at least one year's experience working in a mammalian tissue culture laboratory within academia or industry, including:

  • An undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience in industry) in life sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related discipline

  • Routine mammalian cell culture experience

  • Familiarity with good laboratory practice and aseptic technique

  • Experience preparing media formulations for cell culture

  • Enthusiasm, curiosity and attention to detail

  • Ideally you'll have experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas:
  • Preparation of complex media compositions and reconstitution of media from powder

  • Implementation of cell-based assays and validation of media components using high-throughput techniques

  • Culture and differentiation of mammalian stem cells in adherent and suspension formats

  • Optimisation media formulations to improve cell density and/or differentiation efficiency

  • ATMP R&D or manufacture

  • Lab inventory management

  • Analytical techniques (HPLC, MS, ELISA)

  • Laboratory automation

  • ELN/LIMS

Highly competitive salary (£38k per year)
