Full Job Description

This role will see you leading MEP projects, along with inputting to, and assisting with leading the electrical team on projects in the Bath area and further afield, amongst which include residential buildings, research facilities, higher education buildings, mixed use developments, and refurbishments. We are ideally looking for a versatile candidate who wants to play an active role in technical delivery, project management, mentorship / line management, and business development.

You'll be collaborating with a wider UK MEP team of over 125 Engineers and Technicians, and drawing upon the diverse skills and knowledge of other connected disciplines, including sustainability, building physics, fire engineering, facades, lighting, technology, and more. This role will give you a wide breadth of technical exposure and enable you to push boundaries the boundaries of sustainable design.

What sort of projects could I work on?

The role could see you working as a mechanical designer in a large project team or being a project engineer on smaller schemes. You will be working on some of the most technically challenging projects in our portfolio - recent examples include The Refurbishment of the Fry Building, Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club , Olaya Metro Station, and Woolwich Arsenal Cultural District.

The role:

This role will see you technically and creatively challenged on some of the most interesting developments in the South West and further afield. Teamwork and a collaborative approach are key to any project at Buro Happold, so your strong communication skills and passion to succeed with others will serve you well.

This key role will have a variety of day-to-day responsibilities including:

  • Contribute to leading the electrical team and take a project leadership role as required.

  • Communicating directly with Clients, offering innovative design solutions and managing expectations. Further developing relationships with existing and new clients including contractors, architects and developers.

  • Preparing technical and financial proposals for new work.

  • Managing workload of engineers and technicians

  • Preparing Technical Specifications.

  • Monitor financial performance of jobs as well as setting up and managing job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure.

  • Extensive electrical design experience in an MEP consultancy, with experience acting as project leader.

  • Diverse sector experience, ideally with large scale project experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, able to develop relationships with clients, architects and other team members.

  • Bachelors or master's degree in engineering

  • Professionally registered with a relevant institution; e.g. CIBSE, IMechE, etc.

  • Although electrically biased it is expected that you will have a good understanding of other design disciplines.

  • A Bachelor's degree BEng/BSc or Master's degree MEng/MSc in a relevant discipline.
