Full Job Description

  • The Asset Engineer is responsible for maintaining accurate information related to assets within VIRTUS Data Centres. This includes managing data in the CAFM (Computer-Aided Facilities Management) system and the Asset Register and Documentation Database.

  • Their primary goal is to ensure that asset information remains up-to-date and reliable by validation and verification CAB process.


  • Assist the Operations Standards Manager to maintain the Lifecycle Asset Model to enable all VIRTUS Data Centre assets to be maintained safely, renewed and developed to match business requirements safely and economically.

  • Reviewing asset information, working closely with Live site Operations and Project Managers to elicit functionality requirements of each asset, and ensuring the supply chain delivers correct asset documentation and certification.


  • What success looks like in 12 months' time:
  • To become competent in the use of VIRTUS's own company CAFM system (MAXIMO), gain a deeper understanding of the asset.

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the assets across the VIRTUS estate.

  • Take an opportunity to become a recognised member of the Asset Engineering Team with exposure to OLT.

  • Contribute to the creation of new asset policies and standards.


  • Duties and Responsibilities

    The role includes but is not limited to the following: -
  • Ownership and development of the VIRTUS Asset classification Standard

  • Development of the VIRTUS Asset Hierarchy, Classification, and common language for new and existing VIRTUS site's

  • Governance of upload asset data via our Asset CAB process. Attendance of CAB meetings weekly.

  • Carry out verification of the asset information and tagging provided by Live Site Operations/FM Team as per Chapter 12 Ready For Service (RFS) and Chapter 16 - Lifecycle Asset Management

  • Verify / Validate all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOP's) are written, verified, and deployed across the sites.

  • Review both the internal and external Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) standards to ensure that we are adhering to industry and VIRTUS best practise.

  • Working with the People & Organisation team to ensure the VIRTUS teams are trained on the site-based installation and be able to support technically on any equipment and systems.

  • Review of technical O&M's and as built drawings in DOME

  • Help during internal and external audits where needed.

  • Manage the decommissioning of assets.

  • Where needed, witness test commissioning of any new equipment and have input into commissioning script.

  • Any other reasonable requests made by your line manager.

    Experienced mechanical / electrical engineer with aptitude for interpreting drawings.

  • Experienced in Electrical (HV/LV, UPS Systems) and Mechanical Systems (CRAC's, Chillers, Pumps and mechanical services).

  • Understanding of Project delivery processes and handover procedures including asset verification and data collection.

  • High levels of attention to detail; you will ensure that all asset data is in accordance with our standards.

  • IT literate, email (outlook), excel and PowerPoint.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Team player, willing to be adaptable and flexible.

  • Ability to work with multiple streams of stakeholders, ranging from colleagues, service partners, clients and third part support vendors.

  • High levels of personal integrity, the desire to complete tasks on time to the highest standards.

  • Ability to work efficiently, timely and cost effectively under continually changing demands and requirements.

  • Travel across all sites in the VIRTUS portfolio now and in the future is essential.


  • Desirable:
  • Good understanding of Data Centre industry and critical environment.

  • Experience of using a Computerised Facilities Management System.

  • Experience of Asset Management Principles

  • Experience with platforms such (ServiceNow or SharePoint)
