Full Job Description

The Animal Health and Welfare Manager is responsible for managing Newport City Dogs' Home and co-ordinating the City's dog control service. The post also supervises and undertakes compliance programmes for animal health and welfare and animal feed.

The authority is looking for someone with a positive and can-do attitude, with a proven record in delivering animal health and welfare and animal feed compliance and enforcement.

You should hold a qualification in Animal Health and Welfare; a Level 2 qualification in Animal Feed; a Level 5 qualification under the Regulated Qualification Framework and have received Animal Licensing Wales training.

You should be enthusiastic, confident and have detailed knowledge and experience of legislation covering animal health and welfare, dog and animal control and animal feed. This should include compliance, investigation and enforcement. It is expected that you have significant experience in administration and / or enforcement within a public protection or animal health background. You should have knowledge of local and central government and also of dog and animal behaviour and where knowledge gaps exist, an appetite for learning and personal development.

You should be self-motivated and able to effectively lead and motivate your team and be committed to both personal and staff development. You will have an organised approach to your work in order to prioritise tasks and meet timescales. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and will develop effective partnership working. You will also appreciate the importance of customer care. You must be confident in using IT systems and able to contribute to financial management.
