Emily Mills is recruiting for a Workshop Manager to join a speciality chemical manufacturer who are one of the worlds largest suppliers of emulsion polymers. This is a permanent role based in Harlow, Essex.

Our client is one of the worlds largest suppliers & manufacturers of speciality emulsion polymers to a wide range of industries. If you have ever read a book, painted your bathroom or driven a car the chances are you have used a product which has been improved by one of their scientists. This is a well established company with their first site having been constructed well over sixty years ago. After diversifying their product range and following on from global expansion and strategic acquisitions they now have offices in mainland Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Northern America.

Purpose of Job:
· To take ownership and manage the Maintenance Workshop, ensuring routine and non-routine maintenance activities carried out and executed in a safe, timely and consistent manner.
· To supervise and manage the Maintenance Technicians, ensuring all work is carried out to the required competence and standards (both Safety and technical) as prescribed by the Maintenance and Reliability Manager.
· To ensure the engineering stores and associated areas are managed and kept in good order.
· Act as a Permit To Work Issuer for works carried out within Engineering areas of control (this is not exclusive).

The main purpose of the role will be to:
· Manage and govern the Maintenance Computerised System, ensuring all works recorded on the system are documented and auditable.
· Ensure all hard copy records are completed, filed and auditable.
· Be the main contact for maintenance activities/requests
· Prioritise and plan all routine and non-routine work, liaising with Team Leaders and Production Management.
· Lead the maintenance planning process chairing planning meetings with production personnel.
· Produce a monthly maintenance schedule of planned activities.
· Gain an understanding and familiarity with the Harlow plant to aid the correct prioritisation of work from both Safety and business need perspectives.
· Provide information for key maintenance performance indicators - Work Order backlog, percentage of work executed to monthly plan, Safety Critical Equipment status for example.
· Be fully conversant with SHE systems and the key driver for safe working within the Maintenance Department.
· To manage the Technician resource, ensuring adequate Site cover, via consistent application of the holiday, absence, disciplinary and overtime systems in place.
· To manage 3rd  party contract services supporting the maintenance department, ensuring safe working practices are observed at all times.
· To ensure Technicians are briefed and communicated on key Site information, including Safety briefings.
· Ensure the Workshop facility (including the engineering stores) is managed to good housekeeping standards, in terms of tidiness, safety, and ensure all workshop equipment is fit for purpose.
· Support the Maintenance and Reliability Manager as part of the Maintenance Management Team.

Your Background:
· Have a trade background/been a technician previously.
· The successful candidate will have progressed throughout the years/ worked their way up to a senior position OR have had extensive experience in the industry.
· Have a proven history of having been a manager/supervisor.
